Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! โœˆ๏ธ

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

The funny thing is when we first announced the blackout, support was around 90% with dissenters opposing it mostly because they find a two-day protest useless, dapat daw indefinite.

Gulat na lang ako that when we opened yesterday, it's like more than half of the sub hates the protest, hates the mods, and even hates the users that supported it.

Honestly surprised so many hated the protests. I'd say that it could be because a lot of people left reddit, but I honestly doubt that was the reason.

They will only hate it when it affects them. I noticed most post there have huge investments with their account might scared them loosing r/Philippines in turn making all those investment useless.

Investment like what? I have like 15y in reddit and didn't even care if my account disappears today.

Some people farm karma, invest in their avatars as a way to show off legitimately. Its a feel good thing. Nothing against it, others also sell their accounts to troll farms for trolls to use for their agenda or advertising, an account that has high karma might appear attractive to those people and could have some significant value for them. Imagine if a troll farm whose whole business is to push agenda in r/Philippines and its threatened to closed down the other alternative is lemmy which at the moment does not have that wide spread impact due to low users.

Help me out, my guy. What kind of investments? Karma?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Sorry for the confusion I meant it as spending money to your profile or farming karma in general for reddit.
