Because it is. The CAQ have the same talking points the MAGA have, fear of woke, fear of hijab and little bit of separatism. They try to make people that only read Journal de Montréal angrier to sell them a bullshit solution
I hate the CAQ but you're giving a very bad description. They're maybe conservatives but nowhere near MAGA. They're not separatists either. They don't fear woke although they've called the Quebec Solidaire members that often. They just don't care about it.
Stuff like that makes me a little worrisome about my ambitions to one day move to Quebec/Montreal. I despise fearmongering and blind hatred, but you find that everywhere nowadays.
To quote a bit of Gandalf, I hope to be a person who gifts many small acts of kindness and love to keep the darkness at bay. Wherever I find myself. It is one of my biggest motivators to work on my French, so I can connect better with more people of Canada. The jump in pay and jobs exclusive for bilingual folks helps too though!
Turn out that Only Bilingual job are more enforce in Quebec that they are in the ROC. I have a friend that work in high places in the Canadian Government, when he start and lead a meeting with his pair he start in French as the law permit him, turns out that most of his pairs cannot speak/understand French in a job where it a condition for having the said job
However I encourage you to learn and try. Knowing one language more is always a plus and it permits you to be open to others and if you want help come to Lemmy/Quebec
Now the political landscape in Quebec is shit. It was shit in the 90s and probably before that, now we have one big nepo baby (Pierre Karl Peladeau, Québecor) that want to rule Quebec and for this he is using his editorialist (??? What’s the term in English, columnist ?) to work hate into the head of people (there’s a compelling argument that he is boosting the PQ right now and that’s the only reason that they will win the next election). Since we have asshole-y government at least we have some cool people in the street doing the good fight.
Honestly the CAQ is the most unpopular provincial party out of all provinces right now. We're making memes about how they're going to lose the next elections. The second there's a partial election they lose a candidate. They're especially hated right now.
