Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

See #5 here: https://www.kuketz-blog.de/truegerische-sicherheit-virenscanner-apps-sind-schlichtweg-ueberfluessig/. Most commercial antivirus contain spyware themselves. It's an industry-wide problem. This is problem 1 with commercial AV. Problem 2 is that the AVs run highly privileged and are often badly secured themselves. So you open up security holes just by running an AV.
Problem 3 is most malware devs ensure first that no antivirus detects their stuff before spreading it. So don't run commercial AV on your own system. Use virustotal.com and common sense
