HP wants you to print things through its cloud service, wherein you pay a subscription fee for ink and your usage is routed through its servers. To encourage you to do this, it covers the USB port …

@gogosempai @stopthatgirl7 I finally got rid of my parallel port Brother a year or so ago. Used a parallel>USB>Ethernet adapter with it. It had replaced my HP Laserjet ages ago. There was nothing wrong with it other than getting harder to get drums for it. Got another old Brother to replace it. Linux and Mac have zero issues with it nor did they need extra drivers. Something nice about conforming to standards.
