Nobody has read the full release notes and is making this out to be a much bigger deal than it is.
Firstly, they’re leaving the existing functionality in place and you just have to enable it and approve a prompt that you’re responsible for your network security.
Secondly, they’re providing a software solution to allow any gcode to be sent to the printer and any of the many 3rd party slicer vendors are welcome to incorporate it.
Locking down a cloud connected product with proper authentication methods is a good idea but their initial press release butchered the details and led to the community uproar.
They used to have a lan only mode. Now the lan only mode requires authorization from Bambu before you are allowed to print. They also said that to ensure security, they will eventually disable printing if you don't upgrade to this firmware.
It's a big deal.
This is blatantly false. Please read what the company themselves have stated, not what you keep reading in rage posts. https://blog.bambulab.com/firmware-update-introducing-new-authorization-control-system-2/
Your source is... The company itself!?
Did you hear? Tobacco companies say their products don't cause cancer, and are an excellent stress-reliever!
From the link you provided, Assuming they haven't changed it yet.
