Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️
An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭
Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Today’s Ask PHlemmy: What’s your favorite childhood memory?
my uncle didnt have a child then and treated me like his son, he would make mini parachutes with black trashbags and attached it to a small metal thing that acted as the person. Then iaangkas nya ako sa single nyang motor and go to a highpoint in our barangay and throw it then watch it deploy and fall. (sorry for littering)
thinking about it, he did a lot of similar things for me, took me fishing, made me kites, created old school fire crackers, played video games with NES.
(My father was working in manila most of the time kaya mas kasama ko uncle ko) I love my Tito!
Manood ng Maynila sa GMA tuwing Sabado, alas diyes ng umaga. Love those Dutch angle shots and bizarre commercials ads exclusive for that show.
My first birthday.
I have no memories of it that I recall, but I do have pictures. Everyone was happy, problems were much simpler back then. It is what these photos trigger in me that make it a favorite childhood memory, though there are much more memories.
Not that I long for those days again, rather I look at them with appreciation and cherish those memories in pictures, even if my one y.o. self could not retain those moments in my memory at the time.
I used to (ignorantly) find taking pictures pointless. Looking back, I'm glad I had pictures of important moments like these. Not the SOCMED kind, but the truly special moments, the snapshots of our lives.
Going to our aunt's house on Christmas Day. Magbahay-bahay para mamasko. Tapos on our way home, idadaan kami ng tatay ko sa Coke plant sa Otis, sa Manila Bay, or sa Fiesta Carnival.
every time nag aaway parents namin, narelocate kami ng room ni mudraks to sleep.. di ko maintindihan pero parang masaya ako na andun kami sa separate room natutulog...
Excited ako everytime mag-ggrocery kasi pwede ako maghagis lang ng kung anu ano sa shopping cart without worrying about paying for it. Ang kids-centric pa naman ng packaging ng mga snacks back then.
Watching cable TV. We got cable TV back in 1995 and my favorite channel was CNN International. Naalala ko dati ang schedule niyan is different from CNN US unlike today and I watched their World News as well as World Report which they show news reports contributed from TV stations around the world.
In addition to CNNI, naabutan ko pa ang Star Plus (later Star World and Fox Life, now defunct), HBO, Cartoon Network, Sky 1 (later Pinoy Blockbuster Channel and now Cinema One), SNN (now ANC), I Channel (later Lifestyle Network and now Metro Channel), Aquarium Channel, Vid-Ok (now Myx), and the now defunct Philippine Medical Television channel (PMTV). Naalala ko rin ang mga foreign channels like RTM TV1 (Malaysia), BBTV7 (Thailand), RCTI (Indonesia), BBC World (UK), Arirang (South Korea), Worldnet (now VOA TV), NHK BS1, CFI (France), at DW (Germany). I also watched the UHF stations such as SBN 21, RJTV 29, Citynet 27, and CTV 31 via cable.
My favorite cable channel of all time was i Channel on SkyCable. Puros cartoons sa umaga with some cooking shows (Frugal Gourmet) sprinkled in between, then sa gabi mga American sitcoms and dramas. Pag Friday night naman mga violent anime (8 Man After) and adult-themed programs (Dream On), which I shouldn't be watching. lol.
