Whoever the hell was responsible for deciding that Ge and Gi are a completely fucking different consonant sound from Ga Go Gu, my sincerest fuck you. You fucked up big time

Note: I'm aware that this is a problem more closely related to latin languages, where the sound of je/ge and ji/gi is interchangeable (except for Spanish, who decided that J = throaty R), so I really wonder if, in ye olde times, the symbol was similar looking enough or what.

G in Spanish is also throaty R before E and I... Unless succeeded by U (ga gue gui go gu, vs ge gi)

Soooo we kinda fucked up too

(if you're wondering, what if you wanna say gue and pronounce the U? Then we use a "diéresis", like cigüeña)
