The problem was, they'd also punch anyone talking about socialism.

Real double-edged sword

I think the extra point here, is that a bit of violence is often the answer to get idiots to shut the fuck up. You think our government would be in this state if each individual knew fucking over "the people" was going to lead to them getting their ass kicked? There's no longer a balance to keep anyone in check for being a piece of shit.

It's also why the start of nearly every single major authoritarian government take over in the world over the past 120 years . The Armenian Genocide, the soviet Union under Stalin, Nazi Germany Under Adolf, China under Mao (who was attributed with killing 65 million chinese), Cambodia, and then way back to the United States before becoming a country when King George tried to confiscate guns against the colonies before the revolutionary war broke out, which is why gun rights was put in the constitution to begin with.

"Speak softly, but carry a big stick". Well the stick has been shrinking and the assholes have started popping up.

To be fair, the socialism they were exposed to was Stalinism, a very punchable authoritarian system.

I've got a pin somewhere about Kronstadt, I feel you

TIL about the Kronstadt Rebellion: a group of sailors and civilians disappointed in the direction of the Bolshevik government —whom Leon Trotsky himself had praised earlier as the "adornment and pride of the revolution"—demanded a series of reforms: reduction in Bolshevik power, newly elected soviets (councils) to include socialist and anarchist groups, economic freedom for peasants and workers, dissolution of the bureaucratic governmental organs created during the civil war, and the restoration of civil rights for the working class.

Thanks!!

I think that's also the problem today, albeit of a different sort. I had a friend who was very seriously into the "punch Nazis" meme on the internet a few years ago. But he would often talk to us about it and finding someone to punch. He sometimes said shit like "I could just go to the Republican national convention and start punching people."

If it floats your boat, punch Nazis. But don't punch everybody you disagree with because "not supporting universal healthcare" is not being a Nazi.

There's also significant evidence that 'punching Nazis' is actually doing them a favor, ideologically.

Maybe the fleeting dopamine hit of being 'the good guy beating up the bad guy' isn't actually worth it, in the long run.

Idk man the Republican Party is absolutely fascist

Supporting Trump means supporting Nazis

In the USSR, praising Hitler would get you a one-way ticket to the gulag, as would advocating the wrong kind of socialism.
