People were more inclined to buy software when it was a one time purchase rather than a license subscription (for example Adobe).

Stealing potential profits is no where near as fun as stealing actual profits

Good question. Probably not. Still wouldn't be stealing, as there's not a limited supply. For that matter, how could we call anything "ownership" if the supply isn't limited? Do you own the air you breathe or the sunrays hitting your ~~face~~ computer screen?
