Reminds me of this George Carlin bit:

I withhold my "MANIAC" comments for the people around here that weave in between lanes, no turn signal, tailgating, going 20 over
It honestly makes my blood boil with just how irresponsible people that drive like that are
In the Netherlands, normal people cycle to work and the grocery store or use public transit. It's just more convenient. As a result, only people who like driving use the roads. Netherlands is considered the best country for driving a car.
When you see a maniac driver, blame a politician who put in oNe MoRE lAnE instead of investing in safe transit.
The roads here are super bad, for sure. But it's not exclusively the politician's fault! Just mostly ;)
You can't forget that these drivers are making the conscious decision to not be careful in a multi ton flattening machine
It's not a conscious decision. A lot of people can't be careful all the time. They could be neurodivergent, or have an addiction, or just be tired. If there's no way to get around without a car, then neurodivergent, drunk, high, and tired people have to drive cars. And that's bad.
It's not always a conscious decision, but that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes. I would argue that many more bad drivers are just bad drivers rather than they can't help it. I could be very wrong about that, but it won't change my anger when someone almost causes a pile up because they didn't look before changing lanes, you know?
I do agree that having poor/no public transportation (and no sidewalks!) is terrible, and I think a lot of cities that want to keep their residents alive are working to fix that, such as the city I live in. They're adding sidewalks in a bunch of places and making downtown more walkable, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still mostly stroads!
I just watched a semi driver do literally all of those things.
Not even on the interstate, on local roads.
I watch people do this all the time on local roads! It happens on interstates here as well!
Just yesterday I almost had someone pit maneuver themselves on the front of my work truck (that was towing a heavily loaded trailer!) I still don't know why they didn't just slow down and go behind me (or SPEED UP A LITTLE MORE) rather than almost cause a terrible accident, since they turned right 20 seconds later and had ample time to do so
