Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to become a member of the community, theres a reasonable amount of subs (or whatever the other word for em is) that fit my interests, enough linux content and shitposting for my liking, and the overall random posts made by people equally fed up with Leddit. (also i admit i used reddit a little cus there was this post on the fedora sub showing how to fix a sound issue i been having after a recent update)

I don't really understand it yet, I'm trying to find a boardgame community, but haven't had any luck.

Does it exist? You know that for a fact? Are you in the desktop or the app?

I'm on the app on Android. I had searched and found one, but then created an account and can't find it again. That's the part that is confusing me.

I have had no luck on the app so far. The search is worse. But you can still use your browser on your phone, login to your instance and do what I'll tell you.

Take a look at this:

and this:

https://lemmy.one/post/1600

Basically, you gotta search for your community in the format !community@instance (for example, [email protected])

Once you search it this way, erase the search and search again only for the name 'community'. It will come up. Maybe give it 10s between the first search and the second one.

This happens because it needs to be indexed by the instance first. At least one person in a given instance must have at least searched for it already in order for it to come up. After that, everyone is able to simply search for 'community'.

If you say that is hard and overcomplicates things, I'll agree with you. I think it could be better, but I don't know if it's possible.

Thank you, I was able to subscribe to !boardgames from feddit.de; however if I view it from my instance there are no comments on any of the posts. If I go through feddit.de there are comments on all of the posts. Am I not able to comment/discuss with people from other instances?
