Highlights

  • New utility: PowerToys Workspaces - this utility can launch a set of applications to a custom layout and configuration on the desktop. App arrangements can be saved as a workspace and then relaunched with one click from the Workspaces Editor or from a desktop shortcut. In the editor, app configuration can be customized using CLI arguments and "launch as admin" modifiers, and app window sizes and positions can be updated as desired. This is our first public version of Workspaces and we are excited for you to try it out for yourself! Make sure to file issues you encounter on our GitHub so the team can continue to improve the utility.

    • Known issues - the team is actively working on fixing these:

      • Apps that launch as admin are unable to be repositioned to the desired layout.
      • Border of "Remove" / "Add Back" app button in editor is not clearly visible on light themes.
  • Added Awake --use-parent-pid CLI argument to attach to parent process. Thanks @dend!

  • Added custom actions - user-specified pre-defined prompts for the AI model. Additionally, actions (both standard and custom) are now searchable from prompt box and Ctrl + number in-app shortcuts are now applicable for first 9 search results.

  • Ported all C++/CX code to C++/WinRT as part of a refactor and upgrade series aimed at enabling AOT (Ahead of Time) compilation for enhanced performance and reduced disk footprint.

Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system has passed Windows 10 usage for Steam users for the first time since its launch in 2021. Windows 10 has been holding strong in recent years, despite Microsoft’s plans to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025. There are now signs that Windows 11 adoption is finally heading in the right direction for Microsoft.

Steam hardware survey data for August puts Windows 11 usage at 49 percent, an increase of more than 3 percent over the previous figure in July of nearly 46 percent. Windows 10 usage has dipped by around 3 percent to 47 percent, while macOS and Linux Steam usage has largely remained the same during August.

Hello! I created this community with the thought of posting all things Windows. After switching to Linux full-time on May 2022 my interest to post Windows-related things obviously waned. Interesting to see how this community has become more active in the recent months.

I am regardless interested about the direction of this community. Do you think this community requires some rules? If there are any users interested in becoming moderators, they can also apply here. I have been thinking of making a meta post about this community for some time.

A critical vulnerability has been identified in the Windows TCP/IP Stack that allows for unauthenticated RCE. No user interaction is required, making this a zero-click vulnerability. This vulnerability affects all supported versions of Windows and Windows Servers.

This remote code vulnerability enables an unauthenticated attacker to repeatedly send IPv6 packets, that include specially crafted packets, to a Windows machine which could enable remote code execution. Microsoft has released urgent security patches and recommends to install these asap.

It has been assigned a CVSS score of 9.8. With a low complexity to exploit, can be performed unauthenticated and exploited remotely. Successful exploitation leads to SYSTEM level execution on the target endpoint.

From CVE 2024 38063

The following mitigating factors might be helpful in your situation: Systems are not affected if IPv6 is disabled on the target machine.

Microsoft is planning to remove the 32GB size limit for FAT32 partitions in Windows 11. While FAT supports volumes up to 2TB, Windows has had a 32GB arbitrary limit in place for nearly 30 years.

The limit is only being removed from the format command line right now, so the existing format dialog box will continue to have the FAT32 size limit unless Microsoft finally decides to update this Windows feature it has forgotten about for decades.

Loving this simulator, feels really nostalgic. I could use this as a replacement for the Pomodoro technique.
