I'm Dragontamer, a long time member of /r/RealTesla. Although I've never had moderation duties on the subreddit, I think most /r/RealTesla posters would recognize me.

Like many other Communities created this week on Lemmy.world, /r/RealTesla stood with the Reddit moderators and shut down indefinitely. This is a great time for the /r/RealTesla community to experiment with the Fediverse. I admit that I don't know how long our stay here will be, but as day3 of the blackout rolls by, its time to start experimenting with alternative homes.

For those from Lemmy.world, /r/RealTesla serves as a grounded discussion of Electric Vehicles without the need to worship Elon Musk. There is a need for a community site where people are allowed to complain about their Tesla problems without getting banned from the mainstream, often Tesla-controlled and moderated, sites. /r/RealTesla serves as that home.

A number of "Teslagenial" topics have come up on the regular: Twitter drama, SpaceX drama and the like. As Elon Musk owns these companies, it is somewhat on topic. But I'll work to make sure that the front page remains mostly Tesla based. In general, off-topic chatter is allowed as long as we don't lose our focus on Electric Vehicles, Tesla and such subjects.

Rules

All Rules were based in the original /r/RealTesla rules.

The most common broken rule is Rule#5: All Links must include the original title of the content. Editorializing is bad enough on the internet as it is, we don't need to make it worse by adding our own personal bias to it. Just link the original article and include the original title.

Rule#3 needed to be changed as "Reddit Flairs" are not yet implemented on Lemmy. Shitposts are allowed, but limited. /r/RealTesla had a sense of humor, but we don't want it to overwhelm the discussion. Feel free to joke or go off topic a bit, but don't overwhelm the front page to the point of distracting the other users.

Rule#2, "MetaPosts", are posts discussing /r/RealTesla, its members, or its rules. They aren't off topic, but they are often dramatic. Meta-posts will be welcomed in the GigaThread. It is only the creation of a new topic that needs to be regulated. If you feel the need to call high-notice to your Meta-issue or Meta-discussion, ask the moderators before posting otherwise the topic will be deleted on the spot.

Rule#8 might be confusing for long term Redditors or new users from Lemmy. Image Posts commonly were used to circumvent Rule#5, by making a post on Twitter, taking a screenshot of it, and then editorializing a misleading title on top of it. Due to long-term abuse of image posts, this is hard-banned in this community. No "image posts" allowed. You may not have posts mostly consisting of a text inside of a .gif or .jpg picture. Especially if you're trying to circumvent rule#5.

The title to this article is too long. I slightly edited it down slightly bending Rule5.

Still, Elon Musk and Kimball Musk both are immigrants who have likely bent or even broken immigration law as they came here to USA.

I have the filing in another topic on this community (Greenspan v Musk topic). But this blogpost / commentary is easier for people to read.

Aaron Greenspan files court documents vs Elon Musk regarding alleged fraud in Tesla.

A rare Electrek article, but a goodie and ironic.

"No Alarm, No Notifications to my phone... literally nothing happened just found it like this..." wrote Cybertruck owner Anuj Thakker, who shared the upsetting news on Facebook a few days ago.

At the recent World Robot Conference in Beijing, myriad companies showed up with bots in tow. Robots were making food, playing instruments, even challenging kids at board games. Tesla, however, did nothing of the sort — instead leaving Optimus trapped behind glass.

Humanoid robots are stupid. But I'm still happy to see that Tesla's humanoid robot is especially dumb / non-competitive with anyone else.

Oh, and archive.is: https://archive.is/MmKF3

The $13 billion that Elon Musk borrowed to buy Twitter has turned into the worst merger-finance deal for banks since the 2008-09 financial crisis.

Kadyrov, aka the Chechen leader of the pro-Russian "Tiktok Battalion", has mysteriously gained a Cybertruck despite US Sanctions.

There weren't many Tesla Semis. For one to catch on fire like this is not a good look.

Another FSD killing.

Just more FSD / Summon Bullshit, showing off how bad Tesla's sensor suite actulaly is.

As documented on Twitter, the owner used Tesla’s Summon feature to remotely back their Model Y into a parking space, but the car didn’t detect low section of garage, resulting in the Tesla breaking its own back window.

Big declines in TSLA profitability this past quarter.

But Musk later changed his mind, reportedly donating $45 million a month of his money to the pro-Trump political action committee American PAC.

`Nuff said. CEOs are often Republican, but to be this outspokenly political is normally a bad thing for CEOs like Musk. Media company heads (and Twitter/X is a media company) are supposed to at least pretend to be neutral.

And catering to the far-right seems like a bad idea if your company makes EVs. But what do I know?

19

But even as sales for EVs are reaching record highs, Tesla's control over the market is starting to seriously wane, slipping below 50 percent in the second quarter of this year, the New York Times reports. Tesla represented 49.7 percent of EV sales over that period, down from 59.3 percent in Q2 of last year.

So EV market has grown, but overall sales of Tesla have declined in both Q1 and Q2 this year compared to Q1 and Q2 respectively of 2023. I feel like "collapsing" is hyperbole though, but that's what the article says. (And clickbait attracts more clicks right?)

The NHTSA recall notice contains a line saying how many Tesla Cybertrucks were affected by the recall. And we know that its "all of them", therefore the number listed is exactly the count of total Tesla Cybertrucks ever sold.

Digging through the numbers also reveals estimated monthly delivery figures. Tesla began low-volume production of the Cybertruck at Giga Austin in late November of last year, and a prior recall notice from Tesla revealed that it delivered 1,163 vehicles in December. That leaves 10,525 vehicles or thereabouts produced by Tesla in 2024, giving Tesla an average monthly delivery rate of 1,754 Cybertrucks, with five days left in June.

21

A complete recall over all Cybertrucks has been filed at the NHTSA.

On affected vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.

Another unintended acceleration issue. Fortunately, no one was injured but the Cybertruck still crashed into a house.

This happened in a rich-enough area that it was filmed by someone's doorbell camera. There's apparently 50-foot long line of skidmarks.

A nice analysis of various satellite images that estimates how many cars Tesla has in inventory.
