Her level of delusion is remarkable.
It's not just self-delusion, which is frighteningly common among our political class (and at which she also excels), but a thoroughly complete delusion about the entire universe around her.
I'm not sure I can name an equivalent from the left. The sort of folks who might be so completely wrong about everything are consigned to the minor socialist and communist parties, never making it close to the mainstream — though perhaps some echoes of an equivalent delusion are present among the new crop of independent MPs.
I'm actually growing fond of seeing it. Not her, of course, but of her place in our political discourse. Her conduct on election night was hilarious, and her flirtations with American politics in particular since have been wild. I'd rather she go away entirely, but in a perverse way I'm glad she's providing such entertainment.
40% of national expenditure on defence and security is astounding. I'd read previously that the massive defence spending was reshaping the Russian economy, but I had no perception it was that high.
That sounds like the sort of spending you'd pursue if you were heading toward total war, not merely entrenched in a single 'special military operation'. I wonder if it indicates that those who suggest that this is just the opening stage of what will end up being a much larger war involving the attempted conquest of other nations might be right.
This sounds kinda reasonable?
According to the DWP, the new law will give the DWP powers to:
- Better investigate suspected fraud and new powers of search and seizure so DWP can take greater control investigations into criminal gangs defrauding the taxpayer.
- Allow DWP to recover debts from individuals who can pay money back but have avoided doing so, bringing greater fairness to debt recoveries.
- Require banks and financial institutions to share data that may show indications of potential benefit overpayments
Why are those things bad? I'm not sure I grok what sort of debt the second point is referencing, but abandoning the arcane Tory provisions while combating fraud and overpayment seems like a good approach to me.
