It will download faster to SSD, but then I have to wait the files to be moved to HDD before getting them imported in media server. Im not after big numbers in qbit, I just want to start watching faster if possible. Sorry Im probably not explaining well and Im not sure if Im asking for something that even make sense

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Well yes, but I was hoping files can be available (imported to media server) before they are moved to HDD. Import is not possible from incomplete directory if I understood that correctly (*arr stack)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Oh, you are talking about torrent client settings? I could spare 1-2 GB of RAM, but not more than that (got 16 GB in total). I see this might help a lot, but I would I still be limited with HDD max write speed? Using SSD for temporary files sounds great, but waiting files to be coppied to HDD would slow it down if I understood correctly

Thanks, Ill check mergefs

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Ive heard about all of these before, gonna do more research. Thank you

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I might try that, thx

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (9 children)

Yeah, but need to figure out how to see transfer speed using ssh. Sorry noob here :)

Its the cheapest drive I could find (refurbished seagate from amazon), I thought thats the reason for being slow, but wasnt aware its that low. Im also getting 25-40 MB/s (200-320 Mbps) when copying files from this drive over network. Streaming works great so its not too slow at all. Is there better way of debugging this? What speeds can I expect from good drive or best drive?

Ill research more about BTRFS and ZFS, thx

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Thx. I use ext4 right now. I might consider reformating, but so many new words to reasearch before deciding that. I heard about ZFS, but not sure is that right for me since I only have 16 GB of RAM.

Downloads are 100-200 GB max, but less than 40 GB most of the time. I have 512 GB in use and 2TB SSD not in use, can swap them if needed

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (21 children)

Are you also talking about incomplete directory in qbit? Doesnt make it faster afaik, but I might be wrong. I havent tried anything yet, wanted to check is it something usual or not worth at all. Got zero experience with using SSD as catch drive, it just made sense to me

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago (4 children)

But that would first download to SSD, then move to HDD and then become available (arr import) on jellyfin server, making it slower than not using SSD. Am I missing something?

Hey guys Im a proud owner of Delonghi Magnifica S automatic espresso machine for 6 months now. Our water is super hard with loads of scale and I have been cleaning (descaling) machine with Delonghi EcoDecalc, but friend recommends this one (much cheaper):

Is this safe to use? It says it contains citric, lactic and malic acid. It also says to use 50 ml on 500 ml of water while Delonghi EcoDecalc should be 100 ml on 1700 ml (I think) of water. Its almost 2x difference and I was thinking if acids are simmilar I should use 100 ml of acid for full tank anyway.

We abuse our machine by making loads of coffe and tea. With scale settings on max we get descaling alarm every 3-4 weeks. It used to be on medium settings, but machine almost clogged completely once...so thats why max settings. Delonghi liquid is not cheap, but dont want to take any risk for 30€ a year. On the other hand, I dont want to pay 10€ for a 2-3€ product just because it says Delonghi on the bottle.

What do you use for your machine? How often do you descale?

Hey peeps, I moved to a new appartment and my kitchen hood is connected to the same pipe (chimney) as hood from appartment below. The issue is smell coming from our hood when neighbour is cooking.

I was thinking about some kind of sensor (air flow or humidity or smell?) that can detect when neighbour is cooking and then HA would turn on our hood at the lowest speed.

I have no clue what kind of sensor would be suitable. I also need to figure out how to start our hood with HA (hacking with relay or buying some kind of smart kitchen hood is acceptable). Our kitchen hood is just regular Faber with 4 position switch for selecting fan speed.

Anyone have idea how to solve that issue? What sensor would be best for that?

Note that I have already installed 1-way valve (not sure whats the correct english word) and 3 different filters, but still sucks

Edit: I got some things going on, cant replay to all comments today and probbly tomorrow. Thank you all for input, Ill come back asap

I have some Bitcoin and Ethereum on Coinbase since 2018. Coinbase never failed me, but they ask for more and more personal details. Last requests made me look for alternatives. I read wasabi is one of the best privacy focused wallets, but what do you use? Im not trying to hide anything from goverment or anything like that, I just want safe place for coins that doesnt feel like someone is tracking every single step I make

Edit: made sentence more clear

Hello selfhosters,

I recently moved to a new place with faster internet (320/130 Mbps) and now I see that VPN is limiting my torrent speed.

I was testing multiple AirVPN (wireguard) servers and I'm getting 80-120 Mbps on speedtest-cli, but in torrents it goes bit higher to about 180-200 Mbps. I usually use it trought gluetun container, but was also testing with eddie-cli and I get pretty much the same results.

I was reading that people get 600 Mbps and even 1+ Gbps on AirVPN. What is your experience? If this is AirVPN limit, what would you suggest as alternative with port forwarding to saturate my bandwidth? I can live with these speeds, just want to check if there is better alternative or something missconfigured on my side.

Cheers

I know we had posts like this before, but Immich deserves 👏

One more update, one less container, the best Google Photos alternative, its just amazing!!

Don't forget to edit your docker-compose before updating

He guys,

after upgrading to Nextcloud 27 I noticed some errors in Security & setup warnings. I fixed all of them, but don't know what to do with this one. I've read documentation, but still don't know what to do. How to fix this or should I just ignore it?

I'm running lsio docker container, Nextcloud version 27.1.4

List of invalid files

Hello selfhosters,

I need recommendation for cheap VPS that I will use to host gramps only. Gramps is selfhosted app for building family tree.

I tested gramps in docker container on my home server and its awesome, check it out. My home server is not open to public (accessing it using wireguard only) and I would like to give access to some family members (3-4) for gramps. I thought its best to pay for cheap VPS and run gramps only to avoid any security issues on my home network.

I believe performance and storage requirements fit in any cheapest model, but not sure which VPS is the easiest to setup. I have my own domain from porkbun, but I have never set SSL certs properly before and I have never used VPS. I see this as a great opportunity to learn, but also to make some family members happy <3

I'm eying servercheap.com and it says in description "1 IPv4", but then it offers "Add'l Ipv4 Addresses" for 9$. I'm bit lost here and I'm not even sure do I need IPv4 address. Maybe I can run duckdns or ddclient to avoid additional cost?

How is your experience with servercheap? Is there anything better for similar price?

Also, any tips for building server like that are appreciated. I was thinking Debian 11 + gramps in docker container since I'm familiar with that setup.

Cheers

Hey guys,

how to find out why Sonarr can't send test message via Gotify? I'm getting "Unable to send test message " in logs. I'm using discord notifications with no problem.

I tried moving Gotify in the same docker stack as my arr apps. Gotify is running behind gluetun just to make it available on the same network (maybe not necessary?). I have opened port for Gotify (8099) in UFW. I can send msg to Gotify using Android phone.

docker-compose

SONAR LOGS

While discord is working fine, I'm trying to move away from it. If there is any alternative to Gotify please let me know. I'm running docker containers on Debian host.

thank you

edit: If I try to open Sonarr console and do curl -v http://192.168.100.40:8099/message?token=AOhF2MthB0V1IhV its just hanging and then console closes (using protainer)

So basically what title says.

Im using 2FA with google authenticator for multiple accounts. What if my phone gets stolen? Can I have some kind of backup? Or maybe sync with some self hosted service?

Bonus question: what 2FA should I use instead of google?

[SOLVED] 12 TB disk finally arrived, I used clonezilla. Using advanced settings and -k1 (everything else left as default) made exact disk with more storage. I just replaced disks, powered on and everything is up and running! Ty all ❤️

Hello selfhosters,

I'm running home server DIY PC with *arr stack in docker containers and its working surprisingly well. The problem I have is not enough storage for my needs so I ordered a new HDD.

At the moment I have OS (Debian) and some (config) volumes on one SSD while media library is on another SSD. I'd like to move only media library from old to a new HDD and stop using the old one.

What is the best way to move all files (including hard links?) to a new drive? Can I just copy files with same folder structure and then modify my docker-compose.yaml to point to a new HDD? Is backup and restore of *arr apps necessary? Is there any way to grab all torrent files from qbittorrent (or another way of backup?

Folder structure I have now:

System SSD:

  • SSD1/config/sonarr
  • SSD1/config/radarr
  • SSD1/config/qbittorrent

Data SSD:

  • SSD2/data/media/tv
  • SSD2/data/media/movies
  • SSD2/data/torrent/tv
  • SSD2/data/torrent/movies

THX!

Hello selfhosters,

I have opportunity for free CPU upgrade from g3930 to i3-8100, but not sure is it worth?

Server ATM is happy DIY PC build made from desktop components:

  • MBO: MSI Z270-A PRO
  • CPU: intel G3930
  • RAM: DDR4 8GB
  • PSU: ATX 550W
  • plus storage and no GPU

Im running debian with 30+ containers (*arrs, jellyfin, nextcloud, pihole, npm and many more) and its amazing for our needs (2 users), pulls around 20-25 W on idle from the wall. I could use bit more juice to speed up Nextcloud for example and maybe to be able to transcode 4K in the future (don't have any 4K screen yet)? Not sure if this upgrade can help at all?

Now I got i3-8100 for free, but not sure is there any downside like extra power usage on idle? I would like to avoid replacing CPU for unnoticable performance increase. Comparing specs its pure upgrade and i3 is 2x more expensive.

One of them will probably end up like e-waste in one of the hidden boxes that I keep away from everyone including myself :D

All suggestions are welcome

Hello selfhosters, I've been using different remote desktop apps to support few friends and family members with their Windows or Linux desktop machines. Sometimes I also use phone (Android) when I'm away from home.

I tried 3 services so far:

  1. TeamViewer - its amazing, but it recognized me as non-private user and asking for money...
  2. AnyDesk - even better experience than TeamViewer. It also started with non-private use and messages to buy a license (after creating account it stopped doing that). It works perfectly fine, but sometimes it gets super slow and it tends to reduce stream quality by too much
  3. RustDesk - finally found open source solution and it has the same features like others I tried. The problem with RustDesk is simmilar to AnyDesk, sometimes its super slow, laggy and with reduced stream quality and sometimes connection breaks. It has permanent message on the bottom:

Ready, For faster connection, please set up your own server.

Sounds like a perfect task for my server on fiber network.

I checked self hosted RustDesk service, but it requires opening ports. I have open wireguard port to my home server to connect to home network when needed. I don't like idea of opening more ports just because it doesn't feel safe in my hands, but maybe I'm wrong. Am I missing something? What do you use for remote desktop? Do you have the same experience with any service I mentioned here? Is anyone selfhosting RustDesk server? Are there better (free or affordable) alternatives available? I prefer selfhosted if possible. 10$ a month is kinda steep for me and my needs. I don't need super high quality stream, but would be nice to have simple solution that just works

All tips are welcome
