It takes more than warm bodies to maintain a large community. There's tons of people lining up because they imagine being a moderator of a large sub is a power trip. What they'll actually find is that the job sucks. There's not a whole lot of power tripping to be had. It's mostly boring administration, filtering out obvious trash, all for the low low price of free.

I foresee a ton of turn over as scabs abandon post and Reddit admins scramble to keep finding more fresh meat to grind.

It doesn't list a DV for carbohydrates, but it does list a DV for added sugar which is the real problem. It would be really hard for someone to eat enough fruit to really overdo the sugar, but at least they'd get a lot of good fiber along with it doing so. Added sugar is just too easy a carb source but whole food sugars are pretty well balanced.

That's only because we haven't actually gone to war in a long time. Showing off our shiny toys in Desert Storm wasn't a full scale war. Nor have any of our other excursions been. But a fight with China? You bet your ass we'd need a never ending line of barely trained soldiers to keep up with the bloodshed. We can only hope such an event never happens.

They're going harder because they can't pump the breaks. Every time they pump the breaks, the MAGAts scream and threaten. They can't win without the MAGAts and they can't win without the moderates. So they're banking on winning over moderates later with some bogus bullshit they pull out of a hat later, while keeping the MAGAts happy now.

A lot of people didn't even consider those as abortions before. Now they have to face the reality they've brought in, that abortion doesn't mean taking a newborn and tossing them into a wood chipper. It's a ton of medical treatments, and people tried to compromise for years by allowing carve outs for all but the most elective of abortions.

That's not going to work for web hosting. The only reason it works for crypto or folding is because each request takes minutes to run and there's no time dependence on returning the result. Additionally, they don't need much data and all data needed is dispersed with the task.

Websites are completely different. Each individual request is tiny, taking milliseconds to process. Each request is very time dependant, you have a person literally waiting for the result. But the biggest issue is that what people really want is stuff from a database. So that database would need up grant full access to everyone, meaning anyone could change whatever they wanted. Lastly, that database would need to be hosted anyway so you've gained nothing.

Don't suggest tech solutions when you don't have any idea what the problem or solution actually involves.

We just need Wikipedia style funding. If the server publishes their costs and fundraises, then people can support it directly. Instead of the stick and carrot of subscriptions or the rat race of ads, just be open and honest about server needs. If the users aren't able to raise funds, then cut back to what's affordable. Users will either deal with the reduced server capacity or they'll need to pay up to continue enjoying it. This doesn't need to be a free ride, but I trust the community will rally for a good service.

No, extend is a major part of it. That's how they topple community projects. They extend in good faith at first to get everyone locked in, then they extend in nefarious ways to keep the community stuck playing catch-up. Once they've absorbed all the users from the community projects, they kill off back access leaving the community project crippled in users and lost in direction.

Trust me. Facebook will definitely add great things at first but their goal is to draw users out of the fediverse and into Facebook.

It can be useful to learn for the purpose of knowing how to read it. There's still a large population of cursive writers about. I doubt cursive usage will grow anymore, even teaching it, as everything is computer based these days.

No, a large portion of pirates are just "gimme free shit" types. They don't care about preservation nor fighting various causes. They don't care about the people who make the free shit nor seed the free shit. They care about nothing but themselves. So I'm actually not surprised to see that sort of me me me sentiment there. The people who did care are probably gone, all that's left are the leeches.

I would greatly not prefer that. Only showing top level comments means that no one would get their bad takes reined in automatically. You'd have to make the effort to see whether the replies are with or against the comment.
