@z2k_

Cool, thank you! I notice your account is @lemmy.nz. I posted this on kbin. So that’s a good sign!

@Noki

Lots to digest there. Thank you for sharing.

Is there an article someone could point to that explains how kbin, lemmy.ml, lemmy.world etc. all relate to one another?

For example do I need an account with both kbin and lemmy, or are they just different names for the same thing?

Can I subscribe to a lemmy.world ‘channel’ with my kbin account?

Still trying to work things out.

You can simply add .json to the end of any sub or account to get the data, so it shouldn’t be too hard to set something up, assuming there is a POST API in kbin. Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/voidlinux.json

Is there a kbin API to allow posts? I had a look quickly at the docs and could only see get requests.

I ask this, as reddit can be ‘crawled’ simply by adding .json to the end of a user or sub (https://www.reddit.com/r/voidlinux.json for example). It should be possible to copy vast swaths of reddit over to kbin to build some history here, as well as potentially sync the data from reddit over to keep us from FOMO.

Wouldn’t it be better to lift and shift? You can’t do it for comments, but it would work for posts in subs that had an equivalent in kbin or lemmy. Instead of just deleting from Reddit, first duplicate to the equivalent and then delete from Reddit.
