how do you get a fake ass job like this? why do i always have to bust my ass for real jobs?

edit: i see in another comment that this person has actually grinded the SV tech company game at the literal best time to get in, combined with getting into some prestigious universities with good GPAs. So I guess it's too late for me shrug-outta-hecks

After years of constant updates and neverending new features, the modern desktop operating system has evolved into a slow, complex mess.

I hate this framing. The modern desktop OS, such as Linux, supports an ungodly amount of hardware configurations and devices and performs at breakneck speeds. Often with specific quirks implemented to work around hardware bugs. I wouldn't diss the "modern desktop operating system" when all this person managed to do is write an unusable toy replacement, no matter how technically difficult that is to do.

This viewpoint is being recognized more and more.

Reminds me of Metal Gear (unrelated to all the other Metal Gear quotes I posted):

  • "You're pretty good" -- various Metal Gear Solids.
  • "Kept you waiting, huh?" -- ibid.
  • "Vamp isn't for vampire, it's because he's Bisexual" - Metal Gear Solid 2
  • "You're being silly! What we propose to do is not to control content, but to create context" -- Metal Gear Solid 2
  • "We're not tools of the government or anyone else" - Metal Gear Solid 2
  • "You knew!? Metal Gear is one of the most secret black projects!" - Metal Gear Solid 1
  • "People who have been through war and survived develop a kind of sixth sense to warn them of danger. Trust your instincts a soldier, as a gamer" - Metal Gear Solid 1
  • "Battle!" - Mario Kart 64

You need like not even 2kB of css (you could get by with less, easily) to make it not look like basic nothingness, though.

Part of the reason I left Windows for good was the increasing number of extremely silly and obscure workarounds I had to employ to keep the desktop environment sane. The start menu showing online results almost did me in, but I was able to find random powershell scripts to block that. A failed Windows 10 upgrade was the straw that broke this camel's back. Fast forward a few years and the stuff I see now about Windows 11 looks downright jokerfying.

these days are just a wrapper for the webapp anyway

The Bank of America app on my iPhone is a 400MB behemoth designed just to slowly load a bunch of webviews. Also, at one point not long ago the Square/Block Cash App was around 700MB for some reason, but they have managed to bring it down to a trim 318MB.

These apps suck so much.

The "app" also has extra built-in user tracking capabilities, beyond the dreams of what they can deliver with a mere webpage.
