There are some games that fit that format I think. Four Swords Adventures. Link's Awakening. I have that Link's Awakening DX HD fan game downloaded and I only tested it for a a minute but it was super impressive.

There's a good book I'd recommend which seeks to answer this exact question called Escape from Rome. Read the blurb to get a very basic picture.

Actually, the gnu licenses (gplv3 and agplv3) are the best ones. Incredibly based licenses.

It's why google has stripped any typical userland component away in android and has rewritten or is rewriting everything in the MIT license. So that they can make it proprietary when and where it suits them. And of course they're doing the same for the kernel with Fuchsia.

It is not particularly resource intensive. You can use Tesseract locally on a modern PC and it will OCR text faster than you can snap your fingers.
