I really hope not

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I’ve just seen something about everyone getting age verified for social media, not just kids. Not sure if it’s a reliable source but it’s got me a bit worried. I really don’t want to link my government id to social media.

I might have to download all my pics just in case I don’t get let back in. Overwhelming prospect.

I think you get two free hard rubbish collections a year? Or am I making that up… maybe check with your council and use it as a backup option

This was still bugging me so I looked it up. Yeah that’s likely a universal remote (works on tvs dvd players and other things) which can also be synced to garage doors by the owner.

I think old mate possibly racked it from someone’s car.

What happens if you feed them Pop Rocks?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

No worries, I don’t know if any of it is fact but you hear or read things.

I really hope you stay safe

The remote may be a generic one used to see if it opens garage doors to get into houses. The gloves, tools and more keys than one person could reasonably own do suggest break ins.

I know a neighbour had an intruder a few years ago and when they got arrested cops found the person had stolen his keys. So that’s probably it. They might take them intending to come back.

The socks may be used to tie the arm off for injecting, or a spare pair. But with the filters and syringes there it’s probably the former.

Baffled by the plug in light (is that what that is?) but maybe it’s hands free lighting that wouldn’t be too bright.

Perhaps the cops might like a look but not sure what they can do if nothing has happened yet.

Perhaps you might like to babysit a nice loud doggo for a little while til things are less sketchy.

Edit: Security camera is also a great idea if possible

All good, I think we’re starting to lose track of the pandemics

Edit: I am also tired and put the wrong strain 😴

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Nah H1N1 is swine flu which fizzled out in 2009/2010 and is endemic now. I’m worried about the newer virulent strains like H7N3 and H7N9 that have been known to pass between birds and cats, and have a high mortality rate in cats.

Thankfully she’s an inside kitty already so hopefully it should be ok. I’ll be keeping an eye on the health of the maggies and other birds.

I’m not even on the strawb train and my pots aren’t suitable

Removed the homemade baits a week or two ago and saw a roach last night 🤢 I guess that means they work though. I’m going to have to do the dishes and wipe everything down then order more icing sugar to rebait.

I’ve just been resting and only done one load of laundry today because I didn’t get a lot of sleep and am in a bit of pain.

The zucchini are getting bigger by the day and in the windowboxes spinach and carrots are starting to come up.

Ps. I had to retype the first part because I backspaced a few characters for a typo and it glitched to continue until it deleted everything. Gremlins

I thought it did hit chickens. Thousands got culled

Edit: Oh damn it was like a million. And the infected child. That seems to be contained but I’m trying to figure out how things are now.

Edit: They seem to be contained.

Don’t mind me, I’m wary after the management of covid which we’re still dealing with

Colesworth jacking up the cost of Ice Magic? You can make some with chocolate and coconut oil to work out much cheaper.

There are heaps of recipes for "chocolate shell" so try them out

This is a bit more expensive due to fresh fruit but doesn't require a freezer except for ice cubes. So could be possible for people with only a bar fridge. You can use what you have (you don't need dragonfruit) but watermelon is usually always an ingredient. Traditionally the liquid was a floral/berry tea but in modern day it's a mix of strawberry milk and Sprite.

"This is called ‘Hwachae’, a popular Korean fruit punch

Ingredients used:

Watermelon

Banana

Kiwifruit

Peaches

Pears

Grapes

Ice cubes

Strawberry Jelly

Strawberry milk

Lemon soda

Strawberry ice cream"

I don't have a recommended recipe (I'm not big on smoothies and haven't tested this out) but there are heaps of recipes out there depending on what you have.

Apparently using full fat coconut milk or Greek yogurt helps the icypoles stay a bit softer, as will adding cornstarch, and blending in pre frozen fruit.

You could even chuck some protein powder in and have a frozen smoothie on a stick for dinner when it's too hot to cook.

The freezing container is a bit awkward without dedicated equipment but depending on freezer space you could freeze it onto teaspoons in small cups or muffin tins.

Or freeze it as small icecubes and blend it again into something thick and semi-frozen like soft serve or a thickshake. Make sure your blender is up to handling ice though. I'm not liable for puffs of smoke.

Ps. Yogurt by itself is also ok to freeze this way. Warning: It's kind of hard so you might have to chip at it slowly, and the texture will change into something gross on defrosting though. At least Greek yogurt did when I ate it. It doesn't freeze smooth and soft like froyo from the shop.

This is probably something you already know but a reminder doesn't hurt on such a hot day.

You don't need syrup or real coffee to make an iced coffee or Big M style drink.

Stirring instant coffee and sugar into a very little hot water first dissolves the crystals, avoiding the grittiness and unsweetened taste of throwing them straight into cold milk. Ice cubes or icecream optional.

If you have any icecream toppings or another kind of syrup those can also be a milk flavouring.

I have no idea if anyone here would be interested, and it's only a few dollars off.

But if your kid wanted some beginner paints what you get for this set isn't too bad.

Not all of them are half price. The Wonka Chocolate and Cotton Candy are not, at $15. The Chocolate is also milder but not free of mint.

I haven't personally tried them (I wanted the chocolate but was too tight fisted) so can't say how true to life the flavours are or how it feels. But for $6.50 there are options like vanilla, red velvet, mango sorbet, peach ice tea, banana, strawberry, coconut whip, watermelon, grape bubblegum etc.

If there's someone in your life who can't stand the burn of mint or needs extra motivation to brush perhaps one of the half price flavours might be a good gift.

One caveat though: The amount of fluoride in it seems comparable to children's toothpastes so may be intended for kids and not be enough to protect adult teeth quite as well.

Edit: Sorry the brand is Hi Smile

Edit 2: Correction. From a really quick Google - the amount of fluoride in these is equivalent to 1100 ppm fluoride when the standard adult toothpaste is 1000 ppm fluoride, so it's actually fine. In that case maybe don't use it on kids under 6 due to risk of swallowing

The 'advanced care' roll ons are currently $2.75, and some of the aerosol cans are down to $4.

I haven't tried these particular ones (and Coles are still a price gouging duopoly). But if you're game or like them and want to stock up now's the time.

This is what the Greens were pushing for. Will be watching

This is a day old. But if you see this, are in NSW and have those specific pies check the date on them
