My usual tolerably-apolitical sword guy, Scholagladiatoria, has only a short video on the Jambiya and it’s mostly conjecture about usage, which is immediately countered by a few Yemenis in the comments. Not linking because it’s old and not that good, and I don’t want my least terrible sword guy getting dunked on here!

They are typically used by most Yemeni people, except those in the city of Aden where most of them have given up using it because it was banned during the rule of the Marxist government of south Yemen.

Lies and slander! (I actually have no idea)

And here I am considering buying a framework because it’s cheaper than a new MacBook… it’s been a while since I bought one new either. Had a desktop for the last ten years and would have kept it running except I got a free used desktop, then got a cheap used MacBook and figured I’d get rid of the big boys. Now the MacBook battery and SSD are failing and it’s very difficult/expensive to fix (plus the RAM is soldered) so I’m considering the Framework as a more upgradable option.

I assume the balaclavas are to protect their identities as Israel’s surveillance is pervasive, but these videos give me the delightful fantasy that once you join Al Qassam you never take off your balaclava (except to swap it for a neatly tied keffiyeh). I want more people doing regular jobs in balaclava. A farmer in overalls, a train conductor, a firefighter. Everything in the Lego/duplo universe but with balaclava and the green headband.

When will Ian McCollum get one of these on Forgotten Weapons???

I mean he seems about as dumb as two hammers, but a lot less useful

I’m guessing ceremonial counties are just so that the nobility which used to own a whole ass county isn’t made to feel bad that the county that their granddad owned has had its borders changed.

Yeah, like in the US most counties manage any land that is not incorporated in a municipality, but some counties are exactly coincident with municipalities and some are sub-units of municipalities. We don’t make any distinction between them; I guess in the UK they do make the distinction.

And then there is the city vs town distinction, which is solely on royal decree, not self selected or population. There are large towns much larger than small cities.

I’d be remiss not to post Map Men: https://inv.tux.pizza/watch?v=Whqs8v1svyo

Why do lantern flies congregate next to modern commercial buildings, specifically those with aluminum storefront system facades and black granite?

I just killed thirty in front of a high rise. The next block, a neoclassical building, had none. Crossed the street to a grocery store on the ground floor of another high rise and killed probably 40 in half the time.

Is it warmer at the base of these buildings? The two modern buildings faced each other so were in very different sun.
