Sidebar:

If this is essentially a discussion forum already, what purpose do parallel platforms like discord or matrix serve?

I’ve made accounts there but have never really used them. Not against it, just don’t get it.

Thank you for being the one to create a new home for goblincore in the fediverse! I’ve been missing it.

Your writeup in the sidebar is fantastic.

I’ve really been a lurker 99% of the time, but will have to come up with something nice to contribute as we rebuild here. Hopefully the others will find us.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of these:

  • Succulents
  • Ornithology
  • Nootropics
  • Ask Science
  • Nature Appreciation (general/casual, amateur photos, hiking, etc)

I also very much miss r/goblincore, but I feel like that miiight be a stretch for this server

For anyone considering using sulphur outdoors, I just want to add some tips to minimize impact on bees.

Although garden sulphur’s toxicity towards bees is officially classed as low, it can still hurt them up to a week from application. It can make them aggressive or kill them, and they can bring toxicity back to their colonies if affected.

Best practice is to apply when plants are not actively blooming, after 5pm, and when temps are below 55°F/13°C

I do not have hoyas, but after nearly losing a few of my outdoor plants to an unholy mix of mildew/fungus and pests last year, I sprayed them all with sulphur this spring and the difference has been incredible. Plants I thought were goners are now thriving, moreso than before they were attacked in the first place.

Sulphur also saved a couple of my indoor plants from mites when nothing else was working.

I swear the stuff is magic.

Only a few... now I feel bad for all the unnamed

My big alocasia zebrina is Stampy, and my little amazonicas are Thing 1 and Thing 2

Jack is my hatiora salicornioides, and Sally is the tradescantia that lives next to him

My beautiful old mess of coppertone sedum is Grampus

The reaching tradescantia under my office window is Medusa

Gollum jade is named Coral

And my peperomia graveolens is Ruby

Some are not overly creative, lol

First off, this is immediately and by far my favourite instance. Thank you so much for creating it!

I'm still new to the "fediverse" in general, but with the current flood of newbies stumbling into every corner of it, I'm wondering if, for Mander, it might be a good idea to restrict creation of new communities to just the admin/s.

Mander's theme and tone are so unique, and I'd hate to see that diluted and buried. I'm just starting to see new local communities pop up that have nothing to do with nature or any type of science.

Just a thought of course. What you have here is fully worth protecting :)
