There totally are fascist instances though, and I think defederating from those is cool and good. I'm not thrilled about the beehaw defederation either, but I respect the mods' decision, especially since it's targeted only at the two instances with users who were actually causing problems and I can still access beehaw communities from my non lemmy.world accounts

Fair, I only ever used slide for reddit until it started getting glitchy and refused to show gifs a year or so ago, then used sync. Lemmy has a great mobile UI very reminiscent of the old 3rd party reddit apps
Same, though you can follow all the kbin instances from any lemmy account federated with kbin, which is what I do (this is my kbin account, but I'm still subbed to all the same stuff on my lemmy accounts, except my lemmy.world account, which is basically useless since the beehaw defederation, so I don't use it anymore)
Yeah, they've been rolling out the worst anti-features to small sets of trial users, that's what's happening with the users blocked from accessing the website on mobile
People always talk about sites blocking ad-blockers, and I'm sure sites are trying to, but I've genuinely never been to a website where ublock origin failed to work. Like, even if there's a big banner over the screen you can't dismiss, just open the ublock zapper tool and block the banner
The more recent clarification post says they're prohibiting drawn CP (https://lemmynsfw.com/post/29826)
Eh, I get the principle, and we should definitely be less trigger-happy about defederating than beehaw, but if a server starts tolerating a bunch of drawn CP, we should probably just defederate. That being said, it seems like lemmynsfw is prohibiting it, so I say we keep federating with them unless it becomes clear they won't actually enforce that rule.
No reason to cut ourselves off from half the nsfw communities on the fediverse unless we have to.
I mean, it seems like they back-pedaled on that (or were unclear initially and never intended to allow drawn CP), as long as it stays that way and they actually enforce it, I don't see a need to de-federate
Tbh lemmy seems more reddity to me. Kbin has the whole microblogging thing too, which differentiates it more imo, tho kbin does seem to be faster and less glitchy (when the servers are up lol)
Fuck, they really defederated from at least lemmy.world. Why? Are they trying to kill the platform? Lots of the bigger tech communities were over there, now I'm bummed out. Low-key hope this kills their instance or restricts new users joining over there because I don't want to have to make another account over there just to view the three communities I liked, and no one else should have to either, having a couple of mods silo themselves off from the rest of the network defeats the entire purpose of the fediverse.
Edit: read through the beehaw mods post explaining why they did it. I still vehemently disagree, but I understand why now, and it was premature to say I hope their instance dies
Someone on github is making a translation layer to convert reddit API calls to Lemmy API calls. If that ends up working well, it could be as easy as changing the API URL to make reddit clients work for lemmy
