Paying 27,23 USD for my 85W NAS (which I need to bring down badly ...) per month. Waiting for a new bill on solar power on your balcony early 2024. Lookin into buying 800W panels and a battery. Should help bring down the operational cost tremendeously.
- Just python on a box? Any Linux you are comfortable.
- Python and a bit of self hosted services? Look into CasaOS (which is an app for Linux).
- Full fledged NAS with Docker support? TrueNAS or Unraid (which does cost a bit).
Those cpus are more than fine for anything you'd might throw at them. That said - if you get an upgrade for cheap, why not? But nothing I'd say it might be worth hundreds of dollars for forced upgrades.

Way too loud if you don't butcher it and do a fan mod. Those are datacenter switches. Got mine yesterday as a core for smaller lan parties. Great hardware, very solid and I love it. Especially for the price of around 200 bucks with two psus and one additional fan. But it never will run in my house for regular operation. The 6450s on the other hand ...

Keep in mind, that I won't only do my nas and maybe PC like that. Other PCs in the house should be added as well. CU cabling is easier to get through the house rather than fiber. Also I can't shut the door anymore. With flat cables I still can do so. As mentioned on another comment: Drilling holes isn't an option unfortunately :/
