Seems a bit of an exaggeration to say everyone. The population at the time of the revolution was around 2.5 million. Of that maybe 500,000 were the land owning white male "patriots" that would support the revolution and of those maybe half read or were influenced by Thomas Payne so around 250,000. We tend to attach a lot of significance after the fact to the American revolution, and Adam's, Payne etc. Since it spawned one of the greatest empires the world has ever known but at the time it was a relatively minor tax revolt.

this isn't even a matter of the world in general was smaller back then, France at that time had a population of 28 million. Payne would go on to have less success in convincing everyone there on his ideas because the scale is just so much more massive. Same with modern day.

Also if enough people in California, NY, etc. Vote third party they may deny Harris a popular vote win while still allowing her to win in EC. This would both send a message about ignoring the left and might make it so Republicans start supporting getting rid of the electoral college too.

If both of the parties had an election stolen from them in less then a decade due to this dumb antiquated system maybe they'll muster some political will to get rid of it.

You could also argue that without the rapid industrialization , payed for in Ukrainian blood, during the 1930s that stalin ordered the soviets wouldve lost the war. They at least wouldve probably had to retreat past the urals for a few years until the u.s. could ramp up and save them. Considering nazi plans for Russia, what hitler wouldve done with even those couple years would make holodomoor look like a picnic.

The soviets were barely able to hold back the nazis even after a huge boom in industrial productivity under the 5 year plans. If they had kept at there earlier pace of industrialization they wouldve been blown out of the water.

Stalin probably made a lot of strategic mistakes, but even if the soviets had a military genius leading them, if they don't have the tanks and guns to back up those strategies they still wouldve lost.

Hitler killed more slavs and did it more wontanly then Stalin, and probably would've killed a lot more if Stalin hadn't killed so many people to industrialize fast enough to take on Hitler.

Yeah you can choose the instance your profile is on or where your browsing but you can't choose what instance a post was made on. If I see a meme on lemmy and want to share it with a friend who doesn't know about lemmy depending on how I get the link it could either be for the cached version on my instance or the "actual" link on the instance where it was posted. It seems the default behavior on the web ui for the share button is to do the cached version but depending what client you use this can be different.

It makes adoption harder if when people actually do try to spread posts the person on the other end is afraid to click it.

  1. The rape narrative has been massively overblown with little evidence backing it up besides racial bias against brown men. Did some women get sexualy assaulted, probably, was it widespread and systemic like the media is pushing, probably not. This isn't to excuse the disgusting behavior of hamas on October 7th, just saying it's more likely this guy sexualy assaulted Palestinians in an Israeli jail then his girlfriend being assaulted.

  2. Just cause a member of a group did something bad to you doesn't give you the right to abuse that group back. If that guy's girlfriend was sexualy assaulted by a black person that doesn't give him the right to yell slurs and push around black people on the street. This guy wasn't yelling about hamas he was yelling at the idea of Palestine, that's just straight up racism.

This is the type of republican endorsement Harris should be touting. His politics may be shit but at least he's got broad popularity across the aisle , unlike Cheney and the five delusional people who still think his opinion is worth considering.

They are, and there within Russia too and are the ones telling Putin to wage this dumb war, capitalist oligarchs.

Brilliant except for:

America waits until Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from France and Britain, then comes in and knocks it over the head with a barstool and pretends like it won the fight

Should be:

Germany starts wailing on France and Britain after Russia got knocked out, America made a bet on France and Britain winning and is afraid they might lose so joins in pulls Germany off them and helps to finish them off, then pretends like it won the fight.

Also could be good to help struggling cities and provide jobs. Probably can't have some national security department in Detroit in case those damn Canadians try to invade, but maybe the USDA or something could bring a lot of well paying jobs there or any rust belt city.

Could also save the government some money because cost of living is low enough that hiring a white collar worker in Detroit is way cheaper then in the DC metro.

they still have cachet in some important conservative circles

What circles, people are acting like Liz Cheney was a big leader in conservatism like Romney or something but she couldn't even win a Senate race. She lost her last primary in a blowout this time around and won't even be returning to the house.

The only thing your average person knows her for is her last name and that has become associated with Iraq and war profiteering and tainted in the last decade. Yeah you may pick up a couple middle age bush Republicans in the suburbs but your alienating even more people who despise the Cheneys and everything they stand for. Tons of progressives and Arabs are already staying home this election because of Kamalas Gaza policy, bringing on the war criminals daughter would only make that worse.

rumored to be in contention for a seat in a potential Harris cabinet

No, fuck that. Do not let this neocon anywhere near power, we saw what happened the last time a Cheney was in the cabinet. Use her for the campaign if you think it'll help but dump her ass as soon as we win. She has nearly no political capital, she even lost her primary and is out of the house, there's no reason to court her.

First of all this isn't an anti-weed post, I use weed regularly and enjoy it. What I'm arguing against is occasional use, once a month or less, at that level your tolerance usually resets between uses. The thing they don't tell you in health class is tolerance goes both ways, you become tolerant to both the positives and negatives of use. For weed the negative im referring to is anxiety, though short term memory loss also goes down with more regular use. Whenever I take a break and then start doing weed again I get way too in my head and anxious which usually goes away after a couple sessions. This has also become worse with modern legal strains that have become way too concentrated. Dispensary edibles are a bit better since you can dose them easier but even then the longer the time in between uses the more likely you'll forget what's a good dosage. I see this a lot with friends who don't regularly do weed and they smoke with me, get way too high, have a bad time and then won't do it again for a while and repeat the cycle. So for those type of people I'd recommend not doing weed at all or doing it more regularly so you can keep your tolerance up. No shame in picking either but the middle ground kinda sucks.

EDIT: a lot of people are saying get lower percentage strains or higher CBD ones, to that I'd say I wish I could. I always try and get the lowest percentage stuff I can find at the dispensary and that stuffs still usually in the high teens percent THC with less then a percent CBD here in SF. So I guess part of this is just a rant on how stupidly concentrated modern weed is and how it leaves little margin for error.
