My daughter is one of those women.

I tried asking her what she does once, and her response was, "a bunch of physics I don't understand."

I'm pretty proud of her.

I applaud her honesty and am a bit envious of her role in research (I'm guessing from her response).

Nah she's working, not doing research. Something to do with replacing obsolete failed components of semiconductor machines with modern parts. That's about the extent of what I understand. Something something circuitry and firmware.
