1990 eclipse gsx. Had an upgraded TD05(H?)turbo, spiral header (ugh), and upgraded 12v fuel system. Made really decent power even though the power and was meh. Had it about 3 months before I made the executive decision to sell it before I killed myself.

Had a full 3” turbo back from magnaflow that was loud as hell.

Bought it in 2012 for $1200 with 143,xxx miles on it. If I had it today I probably would have kept it. The interior was immaculate except for a couple cracks on the dash.

Meant to say the power band was meh. There were a couple issues, biggest one being the spiral header was cracked which was unfortunately common. Not to mention the kid I bought it from knew absolutely nothing about cars and chopped the wiring up.

It amazes me how Mitsu screwed it up so badly in subsequent generations of the Eclipse.

How a company that made the Starion, Eclipse, Lancer, 3000GT and a bunch of other performance trims of their other cars dropped the ball so badly .

They definitely went boring after a while. To be honest I think the other big Japanese manufacturers were able to modernize, but Mitsubishi never could.

9 year old me was so jealous of you

It was a fun car. It’s lighter than any of the cars I own now, but from what I remember it felt super heavy compared to my protege.

It’s the only car I’ve ever owned with popup headlights and I miss it.

My baby from the late 90's it was my second DSM (1994 Talon AWD, decently modded stock motor build) ran mid 12's in the 1/4 in full street trim, which was pretty fast back then :)

I’ve always liked the eagle stuff! I still am always on the lookout for a Plymouth laser since it’s all the same and the name is just too cool.

Yours was so much better looking than mine lol.

Well, mine was a lot newer when I owned it. When I bought this one it had 30k miles on it. It was completely stock with a worn out suspension. I actually stumbled on it while visiting a friend. Made a lowish ball offer which was rejected so I bailed and went home when our trip was over. Got a call about a week later accepting my offer.

I had a ton of fun in this and my previous '92 Talon AWD. Going to the DSM shootouts, one year we got a tour of the DSM plant in Normal, IL... Good times!

And back then, this car was an absolute beast on the street. Embarrassed a lot of people :)

The car above ran the license plate "V8EATR" for a while and gained a pretty decent reputation locally.

That’s super cool you were able to get in on it when it was still relevant.

I forgot that I also found the PDA tuner for it when I went through the car. Can’t remember what it did, but the people over at dsmtuners were helpful.

My biggest issue I had with the car was that it kept blowing oil out the dipstick if I hit full boost.

There’s just something about these cars that keeps bringing me back. I’m sure I’ll get another eventually and I’ll have the money to work on it this time.

@sparky1337

Had it about 3 months before I made the executive decision to sell it before I killed myself.

I don't know if this is a typo but here I am concerned for your life. Here's a suicide hotline link: https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/resources/index.html

I'm pretty sure they're referring to driving in a dumb way and getting into an accident.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep! Poor figure of speech! My bad.

I was 20 something and had a bit of a reckless streak at that point in my life!

Same reason I didn't get a mazdaspeed 3 when I had the chance. Knew I'd end uo getting myself into trouble with it.

Can't say I don't kinda regret it now though haha

I had a Mazdaspeed 6 back in the day. I may or may not have rolled it over into a drainage ditch on some twisties..

That was a real object lesson for me. I thought I knew the car well enough but I didn't know the road well enough.

Thankfully nobody was hurt so I took my lesson and moved on.

Proud to say I haven't wrecked a car since and it's been well over ten years since the day I had to say goodbye to the speed 6.

I miss that car. It was a black, fully loaded grand touring model and got absolutely ZERO attention (except from people who knew what it was). FBO with a tune made it an absolute blast to drive.

My current fun car draws a lot more attention (particularly from young guys lol)

My 1999 Plymouth RS was that same color. Trans separated from the engine on its own.

The day before I moved across the US it was broken into along with nearly every other car in my parking lot. Thieves pulled up in a box van and silently opened up various vehicles using known weaknesses, without breaking any glass. The DSM apparently could have its door handle popped off to get the door to open somehow.

Hmmm that might explain why this one didn’t have a passenger handle when I bought it.
