Indonesia is just bizarre. They've got the most draconian and nonsensical laws. The only step up is a full on fascist country like China or russia.

Other than being cheap, I don't understand why so many digi nomads want to live there.

I don't know how much you know about the political history of Indonesia, but it's already pretty much a fascist state.

Check out The Act of Killing. It's brutal.

How come you say that? Genuine question. Seemed to me like the people who did or supported the mass murders of Leftists were still in power.

This is like saying Germany is a fascist state because of the Nazi which are already gone a long time ago.

Edit: why the downvotes? The people referenced in the Act of Killings documentary are either no longer in power or long dead. The golfing dude who look important are just head of some gang organization who have a bad reputation among Indonesian people that know him (most don't), not an elected government official. How is Indonesia a fascist state when every election periods we have two presidential candidates with very close vote counts?

The AFD disagree with you

Digital nomad in Indonesia here. People are friendly, food is great, scenery is beautiful, and weather is cool but not cold this time of year. I wouldn't live here full time, but I wouldn't live anywhere full time (because I am a nomad!).

I don't agree with many of the laws here but that is true of pretty much everywhere.

It's a tropical country with great food, welcoming people and beautiful landscapes, so I can imagine a few reasons why. The laws and proneness to natural disasters are less than ideal, though.

The olds rule the world.

You are confusing fascism with imperialism. Netiher China or Russia is fascist state despite of what some shitty non-scientific sources say. However it's not hard to see increase of fascist movement in Russia (which could become a huge problem in post war Russia no matter the result of the war), but also in some other European states or even USA (Republicans come to mind).

The nationalist authoritarian does seem to have power in China for sure, but doesn't seem to the primary power there.

I'm in Indonesia. When the rebrand announcement happened I checked x.com and it was indeed blocked. But twitter.com worked fine (I mean, worked just like you'd expect a garbage dump to).

I checked a couple days later and it was the same. Now both work correctly.

If twitter.com got blocked it must have been for a very short period and at a weird time. I can't imagine a redirect from a previously unrelated website triggering a block.

Thank you for the first hand account. I can't stand reading all the comments from people assuming things.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The article clearly states that the government was talking with Twitter to resolve the problem. Companies don't want downtime. It was a dumb move.

194 countries to go!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was kind of wondering how long it would be until something like this happened.

When we talk about something we watched on Facebook, most people would call it a Facebook video.

When talking about something we watch on YouTube, people usually call it a YouTube video.

It's probably only be a matter of time until someone tries to find a (formerly twitter) video and ends up on xvideos instead. I could totally see a lot of non-tech-friendly people accidentally doing that, and then telling all of their friends/family that (formerly twitter) is now just full of nudity and porn.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@MapleCoffee @gsa32, apart from copyright claims from xvideo.com

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Oh, I wasn't trying to say that that would be the official name. I think lot of people would probably call it that just because we use that style of description for other platforms.

If someone somehow wasn't familiar with xvideos, they would definitely be suprised lol.

wasn't x.com what musk wanted paypal to be named way back? And the domain his all the time? And right now x.com just refers to twitter.com. So users shouldn't be impacted by x.com domain block? What du I know ... glad to not be on that hellsite.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Exactly. Other sources are saying musk held the x.com domain since he got it 20 years ago. And it was not hosting adult content.

This article sounds like misinformation.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Well… with all the onlyfans promoting on there, they’re not entirely wrong.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

It looks like he Musked it up again.
