I still rock my cr-10 v1 only changes I've made, added cr touch, added second z lead screw, added creality direct drive extruder, added a pi with octoprint, replaced all fans with noctuas including the control box, added dampeners on all steppers and replaced the original glass plate for a textured glass plate
Thing still prints like a dream, and more accurately than the 30k$ printer at my work lol
So I would say yeah upgrade it, it's worth it
Yeah my CR-10v2 is still solid, and that's basically a rebranded CR-10s. I've put in an original V6, added a bltouch and a pi for octoprint and that's treated me pretty well so far.

I would consider them essential upgrades rather than essential parts, since they are competely optional and aren't required to make the printer functional!

Sure, but the way you said it sounded like "I barely made an changes" while you in fact did ;)
Don't go for the TL smoothers but get new drivers instead. A btt Pico or skr mini would probably be enough for your needs. Instead of a magnetic pad + plate you could use g10 fr4 fiberglass which is cheaper but both work great.
For a probe see if there's a quickdraw or klicky mod available since it's cheaper and more reliable than a bltouch (clone).
But you should definitely have quite a capable printer with just a few small additions.
I am keeping an original craftbot plus alive and printing every day. It could use a replacement, but I know the quirks in and out. I just did all 4 stepper motors last month and it's printing like new. I don't like the model of the moving z plate and the clunky enclosure, and I could use more build area, but tinkering with the printer is part of the fun.
Soon there will be the Artillery3D X4 plus for $450. I would say as long as the upgrade cost + resell value of the printer stays below $350-400 I would say it is worth it. Otherwise, sell the CR-10s and buy the new model with Klipper and linear rails.
For my own printer with Klipper, I bought a BTT Manta M8P and CB1. As you own an OrangePi and budget budget-focused check if you could buy a used Creality silent board for $20 or so.

Once you have another $100 to spare on Hobbys look into an Orbiter V2 extruder and rapido UHF hotend. The Orbiter v3 might also be an interesting option.
