wow. a hundred thousand new users in less than a week, or to put it another way 125% growth in six days

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Not just a doubling of users though. There's been a massive explosion in activity from all users, more than just a doubling.

Yes, I've been much more active on kbin that I was on Reddit. Mostly because I'd like to help build the new community, but also because I find it engaging and welcoming.

yeh true. eg redditors are using lemmy to do stuff and kbin for surfing. at least i'm doing that simply because the feed loads up faster and has more content

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why not comment and interact with kbin as well?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

oh, i do, i'm using lemmy for modding and content posting and then browsing on kbin

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

here's the kbin account

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I wonder is there some statistics about kbin.social performance? I see 503 quite often, at times the site is barely usable with it constantly going 503.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Fediverse observer lists uptime for each instance but I think it is measured over a very long period of time because many are near 100% which I don't think reflects the performance with increased usage this past week.

I took a look on kbin code and only vendor folder has 17k files - not sure how many of them for use but it's a lot.

I tried to run kbin on my localhost and so far nothing.

Stats are here https://kbin.social/stats

Btw I had once DB with 11M rows and it was fine.

This isn't too shabby. Thanks!

69 hundred magazines with 420 hundred threads
nice!

A lot of the 88,000 accounts were made in the week leading up to the blackout as well. I started looking elsewhere as soon as Lawrence announced Sync was shutting down instead of waiting for the blackout to start.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yep, I made my account just before the blackout started because I knew there would be chaos when the big wave hit.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I have done the same with Apollo announcement. I created my kbin account a few days before the blackout, just in case it would be to difficult to register during the blackout.

I love kbin! Im trying to figure out Lemmy. I can't wait to see what the fediverse will be like in the future.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kbin is my favorite but on mobile I use lemmy because the Jerboa app is just by far the best way to browse right now.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I actually installed Lemmy as a web app in Chrome (go to the three dots menu and select Install) and I find that experience less buggy than Jerboa currently.

I'm using Native Alpha for it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Huh, TIL about Native Alpha. Sounds neat!

Folks should definitely donate! I recently had a bit of a windfall and I really want this place to succeed, so I'm planning on donating a few hundred dollars. @ernest, I really hope you get an open collective or Patreon account set up. I'll happily and freely donate 2x what Reddit would demand of their users. I'm sure I'm not alone!

Woohoo! Also:
Mastodon numbers as of a half hour ago:

12,553,408 accounts
+2,841 in the last hour
+63,207 in the last day
+320,360 in the last week

(via https://mastodon.social/@mastodonusercount (Is there a similar account that tracks Lemmy or kbin user counts?))

Is there a similar account that tracks Lemmy or kbin user counts?

I've been using:

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Those hourly variations are huge lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That data is beautiful! Thanks for sharing

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

100, 000 new users is awesome for the fediverse! That's not even taking into account mastodon users

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That's not even taking into account mastodon users

This took me a second but I got it eventually lol
Wow, this is starting to get pretty big! I'm gitty lol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is this the one and only ifrostbolt?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I just made this username a week ago. I see there's a Twitch person who goes by IFrostBolt and has 362K followers, and that's definitely not me, haha.

I've been on kbin all day more or less and haven't seen a single error. This is the best I've ever had the site run.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Are you using the PWA? I've been experiencing a lot of 503 errors but it appears to be a PWA only issue. For example I couldn't open this thread in the PWA but I copied the link address for the PWA for this thread and pasted it into Chrome and the thread opened just fine. This has been a recurring issue.
