Declan saving us from having Gary Neville dancing with the Luton fans
I wish he would just run for office and be gone from punditry...or just go to Saudi Arabia
I'm really happy to see Havertz score again. He didn't get the winner, but he's building up steam.
I really wanted him to do well, but there were times a couple of months ago I was worried he'd never find his feet and we'd be stuck in a similar scenario as Willian.
I'm ecstatic that he's finally banging them in and is contributing in more than just his off-the-ball play.
10 days ago Ramsdale had a really shaky performance that made it seem like Raya was the nailed-on #1 goalkeeper. Raya followed that up with a couple of solid games. Then, Raya had this performance and once again the debate is going to open up.
I absolutely hate that and this season's narrative is going to be defined by that. It shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. Like I thought today Rammers would thrive in this type of game with the shithousery and the crosses.
I totally agree that Ramsdale would have loved that match. I don't know if he's normally as good at catching crosses as Raya, but it seems like he enjoys the physical stuff more. And, he definitely loves a hostile atmosphere more.
Arteta really handled it badly. If he'd just said the normal thing, like "we saw a good goalkeeper available, we went for it, who's going to be the #1 will be decided on the pitch and in training". Then it wouldn't be such a big deal. But, he pretended that the two goalkeepers were going to be swapping in and out, sometimes even during a game. That led people (probably including Ramsdale) to expect that Ramsdale would get more chances. When he didn't, especially after shaky Raya performances, people started talking.
The end result is that you have Raya who looks shaky and uncomfortable, and Ramsdale who looks beaten and then tries to do too much. He had a great goalie, he bought another goalie who might be better, and the end result is two mediocre goalies who are both having issues.
It seems like selling Ramsdale at Christmas might be the best solution. It might give Raya more confidence, and let Ramsdale play while he still has a very good reputation.
Yeah now Raya is losing his confidence a bit and he'll start questioning himself as everyone else is starting to. Timmy Howard is right, confidence is key for a keeper.
Mikel shoulda stuck to what he said, take some advice from himself. A sub here would've been good.
That was all bs, we all know it. In a sense I do agree with Aaron's Dad, I'm not liking how it's handled.
It was, but I don't think on paper it's a bad idea tbh. Could definitely have seen a sub here today, and I can think of more than one game where I'd wanted one by now.
@Astrealix @MHPengwingz subbing Raya would just put the nail in his confidence. It’s not gonna happen no matter what Arteta says especially if the keeper is having a stinker. Only way I could see it is if it’s 100% tactical.
If it happens enough might work. Though having your keepers trying to prove themselves over the other may not be the best idea, I think it's something that could work, especially with how they're needing to use their feet and take risks anyway.
That was a fucking horrible display from Raya. I like that Arteta is showing by him support. But our goalkeeping situation is a disaster at the moment. Raya is in very poor form. And so is Ramsdale, largely because he's rusty and his confidence is shot.
@merc @Astrealix but if Raya has an injury that leaves us with Hein??? We’d have to get another backup.
Yeah, and unfortunately any replacement for Ramsdale will be a massive downgrade from him.
We just broke a 40 year duck against them. Admittedly, they haven't been in the top flight for most of that time. But still. That's a nice little club demon Mikel and the lads exorcized today.
Same thing away at Everton this season...breaking bogey teams one game at a time
First league away win ever or something to them
Looks like our last league win there was on 14 Jan 1984, a 2-1 win. That's pretty bonkers.
Arteta did get that celebration yellow, and won't be on the line on Saturday. FFS XD airpods' got this.
Hey, last time Albert was in charge, we would have beaten City if Rodri and the refs weren't such cunts
yea i'm not worried. And let's be real, probably will have Arteta's voice in those airpods anyway
I don't understand what is so egregious about a manager and his staff celebrating a hard fought (although way tougher than I feel it should have been) win.
If he celebrated by running around punching people in the face, then I guess I could understand.
Just feels soft for no real reason. But, bring on Earpodsman! I'm sure they may be communicating in some form.
I'm tired Robbie...lol
Credit to Luton, well played
Fuck Ross Barkley, how's he still doing it?
And Raya isn't actually an upgrade, it's like going from a Nissan to a Toyota.
And you fucking mad lads, must you leave things the last minute? Rice is magical. He is. He just is.
They better practice set pieces more 🙃
LETS FUCKING GO
3 points.
Now we should be nice and tired for this weekend.
Jorgie with another off Emi's head let's gooooo
Just seen the score, I'm almost glad I missed the game!!! I could feel the tension looking at that 3-3 scoreline in the 90th minute
tbh most of us were just like "ah ffs" rather than tense, didn't really expect anything LOL especially given it was already past the minimum 90 + 6 when we scored
Hahaha glad it worked out for us in the end!
I was quite tense, haha. I was walking around getting ready for bed and was pretty much standing over the TV as the ball soared into the back of the net.
I did like a weird pirouette celebratory jump. Then, I brushed my teeth and went to bed xD
i really like Luton's stadium. would have loved to see someone like Cazorla or Özil playing there.
Dec on NBC post match looks so chuffed
Deservedly so.
Only one of the results I wanted today but at least it was the big one!
I know what I'm having for dinner later.
I definitely know as well 🤣
There's a good chicken rice place near campus that i'm not that near to rn and wasn't planning on going to but I AM NOW after class of course
Halal or thai or Malaysian?
Thai, it's on McDougal
Rice sounds like Reiss
