What a cutie!

What kind of animal is that? I always mix up the different types of smaller animals like these.

Is it normal to let them outside or out of their cages to free roam or are they happy enough in a big enough cage?

It's a guinea pig. They are soo adorable. Normally they live in an big enough enclosure (never have only one piggy alone!) , if available also outdoors. If they are comfortable with it, they can roam free a bit or put outside on a meadow for some time, monitored of course.
