Liverpool had been assessing longer-term candidates to replace Fabinho. Profile might shift as they'll require an immediate starter. Among the names mooted have been Sofyan Amrabat, Ryan Gravenberch, Kalvin Phillips and Romeo Lavia...

Moises Caicedo not on their list.

Not a great list of replacements IMO

What’s wrong with it? Any of those coming in before Fab went out would have been seen as a positive.

My worry is (regardless of who we sign) is who starts as 6 against Chelsea now. Fab and Hendo likely gone. Bajcetic and Thiago the two on our injured list.

I didn’t realise that both of them wouldn’t be ready in time!

Bajcetic still being out has been mentioned by several people (Eg on TAW quoting some journalists) but he seems quite active in the training videos.

Thiago I think will miss the first game. He had surgery in May and is still doing rehab.

My sources for both of these is remembering what I’ve heard on TAW podcasts. So take it with a pinch of salt.

Reddy also mentioned:

"Lavia and Gravenberch have long been considered by LFC (regardless of current situation), with their reps spoken to. Other players they've looked at: Nicolo Barella, Khephren Thuram, Florentino Luis, Joao Palhinha, Teun Koopmeiners...

They do love a surprise, stealth signing"

Hopefully this means the wheels are turning and we are about to see something!

Gravenberch and Lavia work better as ‘long-term’ options, Amrabat and Phillips are 26 and 27 respectively.

Phillips would probably be the least risky option and boost the homegrown quota.

None of them would seem to be ready to replace Fabinho like-for-like.

Franck Kessié would be an option worth exploring, but he looks to be off to Juventus
