Staff Sergeant Reckless is a fun story and reckless carried full rank not honorary.
I hope he got a good pension
I don't know if they gelded dogs but I imagine his retirement plan included studding.
A lot of animals served in WWI. Hell, a French carrier pigeon was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Thousands of horses served and died. The record is pretty grim, really.
That's interesting and also grim, like you said. I feel bad for all the horses.
