The only way to stay on top of the new shit is to heavily use tiktok. As soon as tiktok became the main thing I completely fell off the meme culture since I won't use tiktok

Embrace getting old and intentionally using out of date slang incorrectly. It's totally on fleek.

Where I come from, that's not a very tight thing to say.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago

Agreed, and same here! Have to assume I’m not missing out on much lol

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago

Same, once it falls out of favour I will hopefully get back into those fresh memes, but I just won’t use/be that particular product

Apparently Josh Hutcherson posing is a meme and I was confused by my zoomer buddy sending me random gifs of him.

Sometimes it's best to wait a while to see if the fad can survive wider culture. Remember:

  • fidget spinners,
  • what does the fox say
  • ice bucket challenge
  • flossing,
  • harlem shake,
  • planking,
  • what colour is the dress?
  • pwned

Neither does anyone else.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 10 months ago

I mean, the Ice Bucket challenge wasn't supposed to be a long term, it raised quite a lot of money

This is bananas.

Also why did they focus the story on the son-in-law that way, instead of talking about the murder victim? The murder victim whose mother owned that dress? If you're going to force that connection, the verbiage would be much easier to deal with talking about the victim, her mother, and her husband the alleged murderer.

I remember all of those except planking, unless you mean the exercise.

Yeah it's like that but dumber.

Heh, and of course there's a Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planking_(fad)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Oh, huh, I've seen that done at my high school, just didn't remember the name. Guy was balancing off the edge of a couch in one of those "time is frozen" videos.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Pepperidge Farm remembers

[–] [email protected] 16 points 10 months ago

I've reached the age where I just wait to see if they go away.

This is called wisdom.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago

I just had a student say “I don’t think anyone actually likes skibidi toilet, but some people just keep saying it!”

I just gave a slow nod.

Just some absurdist humor. Anyone remember kingdom hearts stupid files? This feels similar to that kind of 1am loopy humor.

We're all just reaping what we've sown throughout the early days of the internets.

@The_Picard_Maneuver I feel like I keep waking up to new mysterious acronyms that are suddenly widely used. I had a field day trying to figure out what FWIW meant once it showed up.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

isn't "FWIW" like decades old though, grampa?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

First of all skibidi toilet is amazing art.
