It's not a Japanese Beetle, or a Figeater Beetle.

It's a Green June Beetle, Cotinis nitida

We used to call them Japanese Beatles where I'm at, but I believe they're really called Figeater Beetles.

Fig eaters? There are no figs around here.

They don't only eat figs.... that's just their name. In fact their favorite tree in my back yard is a lemon tree. They swarm it every year.

Google figeater beetle. You'll see it's definitely one of those.
