I blame Neopets for making me confused about the spelling of colour and color as a US American child. ๐Ÿ˜…

I remember spending hours on my shop page. Had a custom background, music that autoplayed, flashing gifs everywhere. Peak early 2000s internet design.

Making my shop and pet pages taught me HTML, no cap. Then I grew up to become a web developer.

There is still a dedicated following actively playing. Didnt see a community on Lemmy or KBin yet, but it has an active subreddit.

I was terrible at the games and couldn't afford any of the actually content, but damn did I love neopets. I would spend hours on the create a pet page. Honestly I would probably still play a modern neo pets game if they came out with an app.

Dude I was just thinking that if there was an OldNeopets (a la Runescape and 2007Scape) I would be all over that shit, possibly to my own detriment.

I would love to see a cracked server that made the game truly f2p, kind of like people used to do with osrs. Maybe have the premium currency or whatever it was back then pay out through the mini games so you don't have to spend real money, but also still have to work to earn things.

The nostalgia just hit me hard. I spent so much time as a kid on this website. I loved grinding out the games and amassing a fortune in the bank.

Oh man, the feeling of grinding those games for weeks to save up for my first paintbrush and then FINALLY BUYING THE PAINTBRUSH... just... euphoric.
