Honestly struggling a bit. Finding the communities for my interests was very easy on Reddit, kinda having a hard time here.

I find this website extremely confusing. A beginners guide would be good.
I'm confused yet intrigued
A bit uncomfortable with the UI and stuff, as I am an old.reddit user, I like to consume content in my comfortable way. I normally do not tend to have issues with UI changes, but reddit was extremely comfortable in that mode. I will however try my best to get used to this, as I'd do anything to avoid Reddit from now on.
It feels quite right. We need to set up lots of niche communities, but what I miss the most is the user base. It was diverse, and lemmy is known to have an specific user profile. Would be nice to reach out, wear a former redditors badge, and wear it with pride!
Initially I was pretty confused as to how Lemmy worked but if you take like 5-10 minutes to just look around it all kinda just clicks. Looking forward to something new here.
Digging it so far. Some technical issues but I think they may just be due to the mobile app I am using (sometimes when I open a post, the comments displayed are the ones from the last post I looked at). But it feels much more.. Democratic? Than reddit did.
I'm a big fan of it. The website is great and I'm thankful that I can interact with posts and comments on other servers. I think for most people's adoption the picking of a server to join is intimidating because there are so many options.
To draw more users it needs to be made abundantly clear that you can interact across servers.
Excited to see how this pans out! Really enjoying it so far.
It looks like the original internet. Love it
I just learned about this site 5 minutes ago. Iβll be done with Reddit soon.
Just found out about this site and happy to be here. Time to delete reddit off my phone!
i'm just excited that i was able to make an account... lemmy.ml didn't want me. anyway, i'm just here to browse and see what i find.
Really happy to be here - would love it if this place worked out. What's the best way to ensure that we get folks moving over?
Finding my feet, but it all seems pretty straightforward. It will be good to see how these communities develop and mature...
Is there an easier way to find communities on other instances? I wish I could browse another instance as if it were "local" to organically find more communities.
Hello world :)
Hello! Looks nice, I realize it will probably take some time to get used to, but I hope the community will grow. I mod a sub on Reddit and we are thinking about a blackout in protest, in any case it would be cool to set up shop here in the fediverse :)
The Jerboa app though could use with some improvements to navigate the different communities.
I have already made the transition to mastodon and now lemmy. I am loving the change and the freedom we are all gaining.
I like the website. I like the idea. I like lack of advertising and hyper-paranoia and consumer algorithms.
What I don't like is some of the devs describing themselves as 'communists' and 'anarchists.'
Extremism is never a good look, and the fact that Lemmys founders are... Definitely tickling that dragons tail is concerning to me
Honestly I'm glad that reddit is going down the tubes. It's time for a change.
Iβm loving Beehaw! And itβs super cool that we can all interact across servers and communities.
I think this has a lot of potential, I mean Iβm already using it a ton. The only thing missing imo is more niche communities, but those will come along as the user base grows.
Hi! New to this all. From Reddit. I mod a few communities on reddit, nothing big but they are tech related. I know a lot of people on both would want to come over, since everybody is pretty upset with reddit rn.
I just have a few questions maybe somebody could help me with;
Where are instances hosted? Can I host an instance myself?
Our accounts, I heard something about them being cross-platform with some other related websites to this, where are they hosted?
Mastadon's code of conduct says 'Protect our community from harassment, malicious or illegal content', what qualifies as illegal? Something that is illegal in China can be legal in other countries, and vice versa.
I only ask because I see a lot of gray in the rules, which I get is needed, but in the end why have rules if it is all up to the judgement of the particular administrator reviewing the case.
Where are instances hosted? Can I host an instance myself?
Yes. Just get a VPS and run the software. I haven't done it yet, so I can't help with the setup, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of documentation out there.
Our accounts, I heard something about them being cross-platform with some other related websites to this, where are they hosted?
On the instance you signed up for. an account being cross-platform means a post made on a Lemmy instance will show up on a Kbin, Mastodon or PeerTube (the "Fediverse") instance with the format "@[email protected]"
Something that is illegal in China can be legal in other countries, and vice versa.
Assume the legal framework of the country where the instance you use to post is hosted. For example, if the server running it is physically in Germany, the laws governing what you post will be those of Germany/EU
I'm enjoying it. The mobile PWA needs a card view like the MLEM app, unless I'm missing something.
