Hi, I’m here because of the amazing decisions from Reddit. One of the more useful functions of Reddit were to keep up with my local community. I haven’t found such a community here, but I did on Midwest.social.

I noticed that we are able to subscribe to beehaw communities. How do I subscribe to communities on Midwest.social?

It's cumbersome, and not well documented. I expect it will be improved eventually.

If you copy and past the full URI of the community into the community search box and hit search, it will be added to the local instances list of available communities. Then search for just the community name it will show up for you to follow.

Should also note to do this from the web, not the lemmur or jerboa app. The app search functions don't tend to pick up newer communities for quite some time if your home instance isn't already linked with them (ie if no one on lemmy.ca is following and interacting with a community on lemmy.world)
