Disgraced? He's a fucking child molester. That makes it sound like he was a alcoholic or something. He touched kids.

Wikipedia is more accurate “convicted serial child molester”. Why does the media downplay his crimes?

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago

I never heard of him before and thought he was involved with some doping scandal or whatever. Who wrote that headline? Disgusting!

Habitually inserting your fingers into teen girls is a bit more than touching.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The word you’re looking for is rape. He raped girls and women for decades while the institution that employed him (Michigan State University) knew and did nothing.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Why don't people called him a serial rapist? What's with these fucking kid gloves. Serial Rapist Larry Nassar, a former doctor, blah blah blah

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Disgraced is appropriate, as he used to be held in high regard as a doctor, but no longer is. The extent of that disgrace and the reason for it doesn't change how appropriate the word is to use.

Agreed, it's an appropriate headline. The lede clarifies why he's disgraced.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts including Olympic medalists, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.

If I have to read more than 3 sentences to get outraged you can count me out!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well good thing the lede was only one sentence, eh?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I'd never heard of him and read the title and was like "That seems like a bit much." Then I started reading what happened and wow, that title doesn't even come close to how much of a piece of shit he was.

I don't defend child molesters, but it's terrible that prison violence is tolerated in the US.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago

Prison authorities definitely try to prevent it, if for no other reason than it makes conditions dangerous for them too. It's terrible that it's celebrated in popular culture though for sure.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

Not an illegitimate or irrelevant point.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

It's not only tolerated, it's often encouraged.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Most of the time I would agree. On the other hand, a serial child molester is not someone that is likely ever going to be able to change, even if they're given every opportunity through rehabilitation (which US prisons do not do in the first place), so I have a hard time feeling bad for him in particular.

Link didn't say whether the shiv can expect to make a full recovery.

Hopefully the shiv's family will put up a gofundme so we can help with any hardships during this difficult time.

Couldn’t have happen to a nicer guy.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Was this the gymnastics guy?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah, fuck that guy.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Is it really so hard to read the first sentence?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

TL;DR: was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.

Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press the attack happened Sunday at United States Penitentiary Coleman. The people said he was in stable condition Monday.

Someone is getting extra credits at the commissary once they're out of the hole.
