Halloween is easily one of my favorite holidays and the costuming is no small aspect of that to me.

I know for some, costuming is a lot of fun and so a costume is chosen very carefully, and for others costuming is an obligation and not much thought is put into it. But even if you don't care much about the costume, sometimes a lot of thought is still put into make the costume as convenient as possible.

So I would like to ask what you are going as for Halloween this year, and your reasons for it

A grumpy old person because I'm too exhausted to plan a costume, and I don't know how to have fun.

It really does feel like costumes are something most people age out of. I often wonder if people really grow out of it or if it's exhaustion from work/ the general state of the world...

As a not-so-young person, I'd love to get into a costume... if only I didn't have to worry all the time about, and prioritize, basic existential things like health, food, shelter... or see anything other than black for the mid term, with a chance of surprise backstabbings in the short term... until the benzos kick in, and I stop caring about everything, costumes included 😐

I haven't done a Halloween costume in a long time, but I came out this year so I'm going as Ms Frizzle. Space dress, planet earrings, red shoes, bright orange temporary hair dye and a plush chameleon to carry. My warehouse job is going to see me in a dress at least once.

My gf and I already went to a horror convention and I think that's all the dress up we'll do this year. Was fun though! She went as a pretty spooky (and pretty, in a fucked up way) demon-possessed woman. Had latex-wounds across her face and neck and a horn coming out of her forehead. I went as an imp-something. Painting my entire body purple-red took about four hours. Also fake earrings on both of us and I, too, had a horn out of my forehead on the opposite side than my girlfriend. Also also, we both wore very well made vampire teeth.

Just chain-watching horror films. Same as every year.

I saw a plushie "octopus" at one of the craft fairs we were at recently, and asked my wife to crochet one in the most neon snot green yarn she can find. My plan is to attach a hair clip to it and have a brain slug for when we do any costume parties. If it doesn't use up the whole skein I'll ask her for a smaller one to push the gag a little further and offer it as a token of friendship from the brain slug planet.

It's mostly that I'm not always comfortable in costumes or large gatherings, and this would give me the latitude to still dress comfortably and also not seem like a downer if I'm not into the vibe of the party.

I don't really know what I am but I didn't want to spend too much this year so I wanted to use a dress I own already and add some accesories to make it work, so I've got wings and a headpiece, I'll add some make up to do something, I'm not excited about it but I think it'll look OK in the end.

We are going to reuse a costume from years ago, Scarebears! We just bought some carebear costumes and modified them. We are hosting some friends this weekend who are pretty low key, so we are going to have a little 4 person halloween party Sunday night, so we didn't want to spend a bunch of money to do something elaborate. Plus, we wanted to be cozy since we're just chilling at home. My partner is going to be a cannibal bear, and I'm going to be a mummy bear. Easy peasy!

What about you OP?? Happy Halloween everyone!! 🎃

I'm putting together a Spot costume (from Across the Spider-verse).

Originally I wasn't going to put anything together because I've just been generally pretty tired; but all the costumes I have are either not work-appropriate or are likely too niche to be understood.

It's actually been pretty fun, though it's also been my first experience with fabric paint and I'm not sure it set properly, so I'm just not going to wash it until after Halloween.

Nothing. It's not really a thing here except for children who want lollies (candy) or for (mostly young) adults who are going to a theme party and mostly seem to want to look sexy.

But thanks for the reminder, I had better buy some lollies to hand out just in case.

I was planning on going as Poison Ivy to a Halloween karaoke party tomorrow, but I'm dealing with a cold right now so I don't think I'll be going. Kind of bummed about that, but I think I'll have a better time just staying home in my PJs than if I forced myself to dress up and go out when I'm not feeling great. And anyway I don't want to risk getting anyone sick even though I'm probably not contagious anymore. I'm going to see if I can modify it to make it more school appropriate (I'm an elementary teacher) without spending extra money and wear it to work Tuesday.
