Hey,

because lemmy is federated I thought I'd create my own instance, basically just for myself. Because I had no idea what I was doing, I tried to find post from other instances. First instance I tried was Beehaw. But it somehow did not work.

I was confused. Because after a few minutes I tried to get posts from other Instances and that worked pretty well.. Any idea why I can't access posts from beehaw on my own instance? Does it maybe have to do with them defederating lemmy.ml and sh.itjust.works?

Thank for your help!

Yeah, from my understanding all your traffic still routes through you home instance. If your home instance is defederated, you lose access. You will need to create another account with someone that does federated with all your chosen instances. Honestly, this is starting to make me wonder if I should spin up a personal instance just so I an federate with who I want without the risk of being defederated due to the actions of other members.

And somehow I cannot see the comments to this post on my own hosted instance. Just when I go to the lemmy.ml page of the post I see the comments. Which is weird...
