I have several questions about this (truly magnificent) musical.

  1. Does Charlie actually love the Night Man? In the original song he repeats the phrase "I love you" but he also calls him "sneaky and mean". Also it seems he is becoming the Night Man against his own will, why would he struggle then if he loves the Night Man? (yes, I am aware this song is actually the story about how his uncle raped him as a child, but I'm still curious as to why he would claim to love the Night Man).
  2. What's with the "Little Boy" song? Who's the princess supposed to be?
  3. Same as the previous question but about "The Troll Toll".
  4. Is the "Dayman" supposed to be grown-up Charlie? How do the princess and troll come into play in that last part?

I understand it's supposed to (and also not supposed to) relate to his childhood trauma, and possibly that it's just complete nonsense that's not meant to be taken this seriously, but I was wondering if there's some details I've missed about the story that shed some light on the musical.

Also if some of this is cleared up later then please don't spoil, I'm just starting season 8 right now.
