Don't know what app I like yet.

  • Connect have the worse UI in my opinion (things are hidden).
  • Jerboa crashes a lot on my phone.
  • Thunder is slow to load and the search is bad.
  • wefwef I like the search and exploration, but the text editing is the worse.

Where's Sync?!? 😭

Just use liftoff. After all i've tried is the best.

When did you last use Connect? All of these apps are improving fast. Right now, I prefer Connect.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Agreed. I've been trying to rotate between Jerboa, Liftoff, and Connect and I just keep floating back to Liftoff for now. Finding I like the UI the best at this point and I've also been experiencing less issues with it as well.

But excited to see how they all continue to develop!

Liftoff feels so smooth, looks great, runs well, and is so intuitive. It's easily my favorite Lemmy browser.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I have lots like OP's pic, but keep clicking Liftoff. Well, after I've clicked Sync and closed it :(

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Same. Now my only used app. Similar ish to infinity which I used before.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Just installed, I'm replying from it. Let's see if we match 😁

Also waiting for Sync :(

Wefwef is kinda nice, but it's so iOS-y

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I like it overall, but it's so unintuitive to me. Not a huge fan of the slide functionality, especially the dual action sliding. It probably gets easier once you get used to it though.

Connect shares a lot with sync. I will use it until sync comes out

Wasn't aware of Connect, that might actually be the one to hold me until Sync comes out. I was jumping between jerboa (for the swipe actions) and thunder (for the UI similar to sync), but connect seems to have both and a few other things that remind me of Sync (cards for posts, hold to collapse comment thread, swipe actions for post).

I know you posted out of frustration but thanks for the suggestion!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (5 children)

I get frustrated with the way connect does hold to collapse, because it means that I can't copy text to cite in comment replies.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

You can tap the comment, go on the three dots and it will give you the option to copy text. Haven't really tried but I assume it would copy the entire comment so it would probably need some editing in case you just want to cite part of it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I can understand that, in sync you can at least copy while you are replying, connect still does the collapse on the reply page with the single comment you're replying to

Connect has blocking communities and hiding threads which is fantastic. I'm waiting for something better, but I need to be able to block the massive amount of futa/hentai/ai porn communities on here.

I am using Liftoff right now, but certainly will give Sync a try once it is ready

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Me too. I kept changing between Connect, Jerboa and LiftOff.

But over the last couple of days Connect has pulled into the lead and I find myself sticking with it at the moment.

Waiting for Sync though!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Same here.. flipping back and forth between connect and liftoff. Connect definitely looks and feels better but liftoff seems to have a better search πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Waiting patiently πŸ˜€

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same here. I have all three installed. I'm leaning towards connect, but sometimes use jerboa if something weird happens in connect

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Same here. Mainly using connect. Also have jerboa and liftoff installed.

I'll likely switch to sync when there is a functional release, that was my goto reddit app.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Seems like liftoff offers uploading images into comments :)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Same here, Lemmy desperately needs Sync!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

I'm holding out hope for boost lemmy. Used boost exclusively for Reddit for the longest time. Jebora seems to work best for me but Ive had both Jeb and connect for a while.

I’m mostly on mobile for vacation reasons, so I’m chilling on wefwef, but if they don’t add blocking soon I’ll move on. Can’t handle the β€œblahaj”.

I’m most excited to try Liftoff because it looks like the most x-platform compatibility? I think I saw windows/macOS/iOS/android, and I use all 4. I prefer apps to website browsing for this sort of thing on desktop, so that’s attractive.

Interested to hear what other people are using/enjoying!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Liftoff feels nice, I just hope it had more theming options. Wefwef is nice but as a webapp it still feels a bit clunky.

I think the most recent Connect updates makes it much better. I've been using it more than Liftoff the last couple of days. Is Thunder not on the Google Play store? I couldn't find it.

I switched from Jerboa to Connect, and then stayed with Connect.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I'm trying out Liftoff right now, and so far I think it's given me the best overall experience. I think I'll wait until the rest of the Lemmy apps stabilize before thinking about trying other apps again.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I'm on Connect right now. I quite like it, especially how fast it is (or maybe that's a consequence of Lemmy being fast in general). UI seems clean enough. But I really really miss the content filtering that Sync provided.

I was really positively surprised to hear Sync is being developed for Lemmy. Hoping it releases soon!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm switching between them too. I like Lemming, or any app that offers swipe to vote.

If your apps are slow or crashing you need to join a different instance. I switched from World to Blahaj and it's insanely fast.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

May be. I'm on Brazilian instance that runs on green energy. I'll wait a little more, the instances are very young yet, let them have more time to grow 😁

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I cycled through many of them, each of them had some bugs or the other until I settled for Jerboa. Honestly I can't wait for sync.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Despite the iPhone-focused interface, I've found myself using Voyager/Wefwef the most. Liftoff is second. Jerboa is third as it is functional, but just doesn't seem to match my work flow.

I also have Thunder and Connect, but I don't find myself using those as much.

I'm also patiently waiting for Sync.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I love wefwef/voyager. This might not be a normal feature people use but I love wefwef's deep linking feature (on android). I have a push notification system for lemmy which detects incomming emails from lemmy and uses ntfy to send reddit sync like push notifications. In wefwefs case I can set ntfy to open voyagers inbox directly. Voyager is also nice since opening a unread message (or interacting with it) auto marks it as read (which I don't believe other clients do for some reason, I could be wrong though).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It sounds like you're on the default view in Connect. I would change it to Cards or full width and it will probably look a lot better to you.

Wefwef is my go to on iPad and Liftoff on Android.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I actually settled on werwef. No apparant bugs. Text size is adjustable. Easy to read.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Thunder is really slow otherwise I would consider it solid. Luckily Jerboa works fine on my phone and it is native.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Try to reinstall jerboa, it helped for me, before each update caused crashes nearly for any action.

Do any of these apps for Android offer a RIF style interface layout that doesnt feel like scrolling on the generic reddit app?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Maybe try liftoff
