Bah, I could do that for $200 in only a week or two.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I could probably do it for $800 and never finish it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

hah ! I spent all my retirement money on the power tools and never even started the woodwork

Real pros use chisels only, just as the Jesus intended

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

don't fuck with the jesus !

Are you me, but with better skill? I do this all the time but the end result is like Homer Simpson's spice rack.

So instead of a cheap Amazon furniture she got a more valuable hand made one. Seems like a good deal to me

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

my guess is yours look like what your wife wanted, wheres the amazon one would have looked like utter shit (also the quality), and nothing like the pictures on the site. so well done man.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

also highly questionable origins and who knows what kind of conditions the assembly workers went through

On top of all that you had a nice weekend working on a hobby you enjoy. Can't put a price tag on that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

It's always the size.

My Mrs has bought heaps of stuff from Amazon only to find it's about a quarter the size she expected.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago

So much nicer than Amazon or Ikea. Bah, fuck that crap, do anything yourself. I'm in the process of making a sofa because they're painfully expensive or total crap here, learning to sew and anything about upholstery foam. Free yourself from the corporate tyranny & make it all yourself!

Hey have you ever considered acquiring more succulents?

I am a carpenter. I bought a jewelry rack for my partner off amazon. It broke in 2 months.

I assure you your time and effort will not go to waste as this is going to last a million times longer. Not to mention the brownie points!

Great work mate, much better than getting something store bought 🪚

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Thoughtful gift for the wife. This guy knows whats up.

That tiny bit of pine wood cost 90 dollaroos?! Christ, no wonder I can never afford to make anything :-(

That's like, 6 full weeks of house electricity payments right there, haha.

If he had bought a sheet and ripped his own slats on a table saw it’d have been cheaper. But then he’d have to have a table saw. Fabrication is mostly front loaded. If you aren’t equipped for it then economies of scale is working against you.

A forklift-themed party? That sounds awesome haha

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I was gonna say! One of my friends had a mango-themed party. He didn't even particularly love mangos; it was just a nice unified theme.

Remember to invite Klaus.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Bruh, save some drip for rest of us. Looks dope.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Yours will likely last a long longer and be much easier to repair though.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

The shelf looks stunning! I'm a bit nervous about the plants at the bottom - they don't have enough light. This part of the shelf would be perfect for some small gardening equipment and the plants could inhabit the window!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ngl, it looks awesome 👌

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you for not lying 👍

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Gonna lie, I think it sucks.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Looks great, are you single ?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Damn that's good

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Looks great. Also, I can tell that you don't have cats living there.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

looks lovley. I would not want to have to water all those tiny pots thought.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

We take them off and soak in the sink or a bin. Succulents need infrequent but deep watering. I watered them once or twice the entire winter last year.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That's where the next DIY project becomes building a drip-watering system into the plant rack :-)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

This is beautiful! I would be so touched if my partner went to all this trouble to make me something like this.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Money and time well spent!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Happy wife, happy life. Learn it, live it, love it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It may be 30$ more expensive but DAMN does it look nice!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

My uncle made me a similar looking plant stand about 5 years ago. Even though it took more to make it yourself, it will definitely last a lot longer.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Holy shit nice work dude!!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Looks great! Did you at least get to buy a few new tools out of it as well?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well, if you live outside the US, the shipping costs of the shelf from Amazon might have made this cheaper, even if the pricetag says otherwise.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well it looks really nice
