Feel free to share your photos and other birding-related content here. If a photo you post isn't yours, please credit the original creator! Additionally, it would be appreciated if the location of the sighting and a date were given when a photo or question is posted. You do not have to give the precise location, something like "Northern Idaho, June 2023" or even "North-Western US, June 2023" suffices.

I have a fancy camera for birding. Ok so I have several fancy cameras for birding. And binoculars. And tripods and monopods and spotting scopes. I have a lot of stuff!!! But I cannot have that stuff with me at all times. What I do have is my phone. So my question is, if I wanted to acquire a phone that would give me the best chance of capturing those opportunities that occur where one of our fine feathered friends decides to show off, what is my best choice? Should I just get the latest super pro max iPhone or is there some Android variant like the pixel or latest Samsung that should be considered? Or is there something else entirely?

The Samsung S23 seems to have the best cameras on any phone right now.

Raw optical zoom: Samsung flagship.

However Samsung image processing isn't the best out there.

My Samsung S23 has done pretty well. It's digital zoom is pretty good and even the blurring was acceptable to Merlin picture ID.

A high end samsung galaxy takes amazing pictures.

This is for my 3 year old galaxy fold: https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/6ecb5e5f-797d-4c51-8f72-1b4cf886c976.jpeg
