I read the wiki page for digg and found this now-ironic comment:

I would like to believe it will, but as bad as Reddit karma was, it served a purpose. Without karma (or some rating system), moderation on Lemmy will be much harder.

Lemmy does have karma, it is stored in the DB, and the API returns it. It just isn’t displayed on the UI.

If I remember correctly, the properties the API returns are comment_score and post_score.
