I started playing with some friends during the beta test. We were all gnomes so we would have the same starting city. I played a rogue. If I recall correctly, the others were magician and cleric.

I played EQ when it went live, and played until Gates of Discord. Since then I seem to have a cycle of playing for 1-2 years before taking 1-2 years off. EverQuest is the game I always end up returning to, though.

I started in 2000 right before kunark launched and was it sucked me right in. Made tons of friends and played pretty hardcore up until the end of PoP then got distracted with real life.

I still get the urge sometimes and will hop into a TLP or p99 every few years. Had a good group of friends on red for 2 years or so before the population fell off a cliff.

Just recently played through a pretty amazing emu server that kept me and a friend busy for several months. I'm sure in 6 months or so I'll be looking to come back and get another eq fix in whatever form it takes this time!

Looks like there's a whole 2 of us using Lemmy instead of Reddit LOL.

I missed out on classic because I could never afford a subscription, but started playing when the F2P stuff started and have been enjoying the TLP action over the past few years a lot.

It was just me for a while. It's nice to see others in here. I have a feeling with more niche communities popping up all the time, we will see more people stopping by to see what the fuss is about.

I have been on Mischief since launch. I just got to level 80. It's amazing how much SoF changes things. They really seemed to balance things more like a modern MMO. I liked classic, but I also am excited about the way things are going. One of my favorite changes made back in TSS is them stopping making every single mob summon.

I have a Mischief character but haven’t put too much time in, even though it seems that is the best long term server. Hopefully I can move my Yelinak Druid there at some point but not sure what the transfer rules really look like.

I am not sure about transfer rules. With SoF out, the group gear is as good as the raid gear from the previous expansion. If you sell a krono, you could gear up and get 70+ pretty quick and start grouping and getting the gear to drop or buy it with the leftover money. With all gear being tradeable, leveling is pretty easy with cheapo gear from past expansions.

Started in the beta testing like you. Was crazy laggy and I remember running a direction, the whole world shifting around and bugging out, then shifting back. Often falling through the world and having GMs rescue my corpse as it was literally below the world.

PvP servers, standard servers.

The brutality if dieing and losing literally everything. The complete lack of directions (aside from that super basic tutorial).

Good times.

I stopped in early 2004. Might re-join again just to look around. Though it looks like I might have to check out project 1999 for the nostalgia and daybreak for the current happenings and content.
