I guess this is mostly for older games?

Yes.
Such a cool tool. I didn't know so many Linux-native engines existed. Can't wait for the Dark Forces one to be added.
This will be nice, but it's pretty much a "You only need it when you need it" kindof tool, due to being pretty highly specialized.
Plus I know some engine remakes are still not quite there, like the Theme Hospital One (mostly presentation, gameplay mechanics are all there) and the Warcraft 1 and 2 ones (again mainly presentation, especially when it comes to Audio which is just run in soundtrack mode and includes menu music)
I'd imagine they could add ScummVM as well, but it'd take a lot of time to figure out how to get all the files into the right places probably, since I doubt every ScummVM game does it the same.
I accidentally linked an incomplete list of supported games. The full list is here, and does support scummvm.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
So it would help you get OpenMW for Morrowind, as just one example (many more available), directly in Steam.
Support copying steam input template from engine.
Update godot controller icons addon.
Remove unnecessary code and dependency around xdg_runtime_dir.
Be sure to check my previous article but to save you a click here's a video from before.
It works the same on Steam Deck as it does desktop Linux.
