I thought John Dies at the End sounded familliar. I remembereading "This book is full of spiders: seriously, dude, don't touch it"

That is an excellent book too. In some ways better.
I would read John Dies at the End. I enjoyed the movie and watched it long enough ago the only thing I remember is that John died at the end.
I am shocked. I dont think any of us could have guessed that. Lol
Sorry if I spoiled anything for you lol
I second John Dies At The End. You may find it under the pen name "David Wong". Amazing book and a really great movie adaptation, IMO as someone who watched the movie first.
Just so there is some variety I'll nominate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Something short and light to work out the kinks for the thread format.
All these other suggestions sound good so far though. Whatever works I'll probably be adding them to my backlog.
I love this suggestion (it has been so long since I reread it) and I hope we can see it gain traction in future votes. And thanks for bringing it up, I may just go ahead and reread it anyway :D
Godspeed by Charles Sheffield
Just read Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer, fantastic book. I nominate that one.
A memory called Empire. Or Hyperion. Or Revelation Space.
Another suggestion: Empire of Silence (Suneater series 1).
So I recognize that the late request is my fault (sorry, Im new). So I am going to call an audible this month for two reasons. The upvotes and suggestions seemed to favor John Dies at The End, which I think is a great choice in general to read in October. In the future we'll have a proper vote and get started earlier. I will take all the nominees from this list and add them to a post for next month and we'll get a proper vote going for November.
October Book Club is John Dies at the End.
